A great prequel novella fleshing out the character development from Avice to Vice and how she found out she's not wrong, she's just been with the wrong people.

Definitely want to read more. I wasn't expecting to get as much as we did plot-wise. There is a frankly amusing death in here that I feel guilty about but I have never heard of someone dying this way, in that situation. I like the main characters development as seen in the main story. Also curious about her sister.

Avice has always dreamed of being something more than just a dutiful wife. She was always the wild child out running, exploring, climbing trees, and all sorts of things girls should not be doing. When her cruel father tells her that she will be married to someone who is NOT her love, Evered, they decide to run off together and elope. That was going well until her father chased them down, and they had to barter for passage on a pirate ship to get away. Which was perfectly fine for Avice, since that meant adventure that she desperately craved.

While on the ship, things with Evered quickly changed his attitude. He had told Avice that he would let her write, and be free, but on the ship, he stayed in their cabin the whole time because he was seasick. That didn't stop Avic from going above deck and working hard, and earning a place alongside the crew. When ever she tried to tell him about it, he was uninterested, and often scolded her about it. To say she might have made a mistake marrying him is an understatement.

I cannot wait to pick up the next book in the series and see what Avice does now that she is on the adventure of a lifetime!

I enjoyed this a lot, much like The Shadows Of The Tenebrism Court series. I didn't realize at first that it was Kat's sister's story, so I'm excited for that.

I liked the pacing for a prequel book. I hated Evered from the get-go, so good riddance. πŸ‘‹πŸ»

I'm looking forward to seeing how Vice matures and grows. Not looking forward to more Uncle Rufus 🫣

I found it to be a smidge predictable, and maybe could use some work on the writing quality, but I still had a good time.
