My first foray into the Sally Rooney literary universe and overall it was fine. If her other two novels are written in the same way I can understand how they were turned into tv shows - the writing reads like a screenplay and feels a little bit like what a mumblecore film would be like. Overall I didn’t mind those parts. My issue was just those letters between Alice and Eileen killed me. I didn't particularly like any of the characters so to have whole chapters dedicated to their stream of consciousness thoughts about the meaning of life etc I just did not care for. Also there’s a little pandemic mention at the end which no thank you!

Took me a long time to get into this book. I enjoyed parts of the story however, the story didn't really go anywhere at all. Being around a similar age to main character I did have some shared feelings and experiences so I did connect to the characters, but I did not warm to the female characters at all. The male characters were more likeable and Felix did add some light moments to the otherwise mundane story. It is a shame because I really enjoyed Sally Rooney's other novels so was really looking forward to reading this one. Although, my overall view of the book was meh,
I did like the ending seeing the girls remaining friends and in different happier points in their lives
