Dave Ramsey may be somewhat controversial but the plan is pretty solid and I appreciate that he cuts straight to the heart of the issues.

Easy to read and very practical. Harder to do, but then everything worth doing is. Everyone should read this, even if you're not in financial trouble. Watch out, though, that you don't get caught up in treasuring the things of this earth. Ultimately, our treasure is in heaven

This changed my financial perspective, plan, present, and future. I highly recommend it for anyone who knows they need to get organized and/or have a lot to learn about personal finance.

I obsessively listen to Dave Ramsey's podcast and figured it was probably time I actually read TMM, since he brings it up a lot (as you would if you had built your empire on principles written out in a book you wrote). I had an Audible credit I didn't know what to do with, so I bought the audio version, since it's pretty much an elongated podcast-this might have been to the detriment of my enjoyment and "education" in the end. The audiobook is abridged and runs under four hours, so I have to assume that a lot was left out. Like, A LOT a lot. I enjoy the interaction on his show, where the advice he gives callers is personal and realistic, but it felt like I was being yelled at for almost four hours when I listened to the book. Very little new information was discussed, and the audience is assumed to be spending money as if they're heirs to the Vanderbilt fortune. I have to hope that the printed book takes more consideration towards the variety of people and their situations who might be seeking debt payoff and personal finance advice from him, but it doesn't seem likely.
I personally think that going to Ramsey's website and poking around a bit and then listening to a few podcasts will be enough to get you the basic understanding of what he says in TMM (and for free!). If I was starting from scratch and knew nothing about Dave Ramsey, starting here would be a good introduction to him, but he really comes off a lot better on his podcast.

The information in this book is common-sense, but the way Dave lays it out really drives it home. It's full of "We did it!" stories from readers of previous editions, making this an easy and fun read. It was this book that made me a Dave Ramsey fan.

Overall I thought the advice in this book was pretty sound, and I've began following the steps and have already paid of a big chunk of debt. Coming up with a workable budget has really helped me see how I've been wasting too much in certain areas. I also really like the idea of the debt snowball - I feel like I've been paying off my debt incorrectly all along.
However, I'd say that the book isn't especially well-written. Probably over half the book is taken up with either testimonials of people who succeeded on the plan, or the author bragging about how well his plan works. You could arguably skim over most of this and still understand the most important parts of the book. One of the top reviews on Goodreads does a good job of summarizing everything, which is a really good reference.

As someone who has absolutely not understanding of money, this was extremely beneficial. I listened to the audio book and will likely listen to it again. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to take a more proactive approach to their financial future.

Some good advice (and mostly a lot of common sense) but terribly written, and a third of the way through I just stopped reading the testimonies as they redundant.
