Having heard incredible things about Dave Ramsey's teachings, I was happy to pick this up. But the one-star is relevant, and there is a reason for it. Let me explain.

If there is one thing I dislike, it's self-plugging and wasting time. The title of this book and what it promises ("A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness") get totally lost in the middle of too many stories. I thought I was going to read basic financial principles to follow. To get there, one has to cull through the numerous stories of people whose lives were changed by said principles. It's almost like this: okay, we want to teach these principles, but in order to share them, let's provide several hundred pages of stories from people who implemented these principles and save sharing the wise financial advice for last.

I love to read, but I found this extremely boring and tedious. I didn't like the writing, and after hearing everyone rave about this, I was deeply disappointed. This could have been a short, efficient book if it simply shared what it promises and kept it simple.

I think many of Dave Ramsey's financial tips are incredibly helpful. I just did not like this book and actually wouldn't recommend it.

Not really for me! I can understand how this would be super helpful for many, but I'm not sure how much of this I will employ. Also the Rush Limbaugh "you are the problem!!", fear of credit cards, and slight misogyny/overtly religious delivery was also not for me

This is a crash course in finance. Has some excellent principals. A lot of this advice is really strong for people with zero knowledge or are misinformed. I don't agree with everything in here, however it is a great starting point for someone that needs to get their financial life in order.

This book basically has the same advice as the Financial Peace Planner, but this one is a bit more readable. Good advice.

He's a bit too condescending and thinks he's much funnier than he really is but he's got some good ideas. He also relies too much on catch phrases like "there was more month than money" and "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired" a tad too heavily but I hear that catch phrases are popular in the financial world.

He advocated living debt-free and I can see the appeal in that. However, with the missus and I both in school, that's just not pragmatic at the moment. His steps are simple and make sense. It's not a bad plan. And Pam and I are going to attempt a couple of steps even though we'll still be acruing debt.

If you need a financial book this one isn't a bad start. I'd just reccommend reading another after it to get more than one point of view.
