A story of two people who love one another so much it looks like hate, at least at first, struggling to overcome their pasts and their own mistakes, in a story told through dialogue and heat. The dialogue was such a pleasure, southern syrup and swear words, whole backstories and family dynamics hinted at in brief exchanges and epic put downs, and the physicality was amazingly balanced with excitement and tenderness between two hurt and yearning folks. The trans MC’s insistence on being who he is at every moment is absolutely delightful, I only wish I learned more about his librarian achievements!

Sometimes, to seek happiness, we must blindfold ourselves, chafing against our instincts of self-preservation lest we allow good sense to prevent our taking a risk on what we scarcely dare hope may be. This is the peril Milo and Remi confront: taking the leap of faith of putting your happiness in the hands of another.
