Audiobook. Cop helps take down corrupt cop. Complicated closed-off woman helping other women escape bad situations. Old cars. New Orleans. Lots of getting beat up, boredom. Getting caught in the rain.

Cigarette burns. Gross sexual predators. Abuse of power. Corrupt system.

I found the plot line very jarring, often the next passage would be an incident that was a day later. I found Alex to be pretty unrealistic (and dumb) for a PI but ~~miraculously~~ Nathan was always around to right her wrongs. The sex scenes were hot and the sexual tension between the two was believable.

This story was really fragmented and abrupt. The transitions between chapters were jarring. I was hoping that I found a new author to be excited about and dive into their oeuvre. Le sigh... my search continues.

I thought the book was alright. The mystery / suspense aspect was done very well, but I would have liked to have had the romance fleshed out a little more. I was really frustrated with Alex. I didn't really understand her emotions. I didn't get why she would treat Nathan the way that she did. I think if we got more books with them in it that would be something we could discover about her over the course of a few books. But we are just kind of thrown into her life and her thoughts and feelings and expected to understand.

I will say that I did like Nathan's character. Everything the POV switched to his perspective I liked it a lot more. I guess I didn't understand Alex's motivations for why she was so determined. Like I said we were thrown into the middle of events that started off the page. I was waiting for Alex to bring up something from her past as the reason behind her devotion to the case, but it never came. I don't know if it was something that was implied?

I will continue to read the series. There were moments that I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to see what was going to happen next. Plus, I kept waiting on Alex to wake up about her feelings towards Nathan. Doesn't disappoint, just would have liked it a little sooner.

Untraceable is the first book in the Tracers series and the first I have read from this author. I like suspense books and romances, but I don't read a lot of romantic suspense books. Usually they are just romances with a little bit of suspense thrown in, but not this one. Untraceable was more forensic cop drama with romance added which I loved. I love watching cop shows, or forensic shows, any TV show where there is a killer and they try to find them. So I was particularly excited about this book as it is just like the shows I love, but better.

Alex is a private investigator, working mostly for insurance companies, but she also helps women in need disappear. If someone comes to her in trouble, an abusive husband, whatever, Alex helps them. She has a soft spot for them and she gives them everything necessary to stay hidden and not have their past find them. Only one of her more recent cases doesn't follow Alex's instructions and might be dead.

When someone comes to Alex looking for Melanie, one of Alex's clients, she has a suspicion that Melanie is dead. She doesn't have a body, but this aren't adding up right. She knows who would have killed her as well and that causes a few complications. The killer will not be easy to take down. She gets mixed up in a mess and turns to Nathan for help. Nathan the cop. She apparently knows him from interactions in the past, but I haven't read any of the authors other works so this is all new to me. I kind of liked the friendships and everything that was established even though I didn't previously know the characters.

As Alex is trying to figure out what exactly happened to Melanie she asks Nathan to discretely do the same thing. Of course they are both attracted to the other but for lots of reasons they try and not cross that line. First off Nathan doesn't really seem to believe Alex that something happened to Melanie. She doesn't have a body or any proof and so it is hard to do an investigation on something that may or may not have happened. I enjoyed how he didn't just go along with whatever she thought even though he obviously had feelings for her.

I will say Alex is not always the brightest. She knows who the killer is, she knows what happened to Melanie (or thinks she does), and yet she keeps just going right into the thick of things. She does have an ex flame and ladies man extraordinaire, Troy, who shows up and adds some fun. I liked Troy. He was fun to read. Then we are also introduced to the Tracers - the people in the forensics lab who are the best of the best. I really liked Mia and hope we get a story about her. I loved her right for the moment I met her. She is the DNA queen. So much fun!

Things progress, Alex and Nathan grow closer, they try and figure everything out and take down the bad guys. It was a fun read. I was pleasantly surprised by the story and I will definitely be reading more, especially since Troy's story is next. He was fun so I cannot wait to read it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shoshanna from my group of KA Addicts had recommend to me this series which is one of her favorites series and I must admit that if I was not totally convinced at first, I was soon sucked by this book and this series ><
This series revolves around the Delphi Center which is a top of the range analysis laboratory with a whole bunch of experts who helped the police and who are more or less the main characters (with FBI agents, police officers ...)
I loved the style of the author with a complex and detailed police intrigue, endearing characters, lots of twists ...
What I particularly liked :
- the twists and dramas of the plot (blood, shootings, corpses ... <3)
- the different characters and especially Troy that I particularly liked <3
- the passage in the New Orleans <3
What convinced me less :
- the romance between Nathan and Alex ... I don't know why, towards the end they were cute together but I had a hard time seeing their love grow ...
- the "victim" Melanie that I just wanted to kill myself !!
In short, if you're a fan of suspense romance and plots à la "Criminal Minds", this book and this series are for you !! I'm reading the next book right now ><
The mixing of crime and romance in this thriller got a little weird and cheesy. Jumping around in time was a little much as well. It was ok but wouldn’t continue in the series.
I love a gutsy smart heroine, what I don't like are overly emotional ones with seemingly no sense or reason. This was a massive flaw in the previous novel I read featuring Courtney's sister and thankfully a trait dialed back more than a little in this book.
The novel does a good job of setting up characters and settings that were introduced in earlier novels while managing to keep up the pacing.
