I wanted to like this, I like mysteries but I couldn't connect with the characters. The plot was alright, it had a fair amount of suspense but the characters, especially the woman just irritated me more than anything. She was stubborn and wouldn't listen to reason but we were never given enough reason to understand why she would stick to her guns when it didn't make any sense.

The narrator did a good job with what she had to work with.

I read [b:Untraceable|6433341|Untraceable (Tracers, #1)|Laura Griffin|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1348983854s/6433341.jpg|6622832], which was a bit of a nothing book but I guess if you want to sit on a beach and read something that doesn't keep lingering in your mind, then go for it!

This mystery-romance was suspenseful and well-paced. The conflicts between PI Alex and her soon-to-be-more-than-friends police officer friend Nathan, are understandable. She's a PI who has chosen a profession full of risks and danger. He's a cop and is motto is to protect and to serve. Can they work together to solve the mystery of a disappearing client while also acknowledging their feelings for each other? Untraceable is nice combo of mystery and romance, with enough dramatic turns and cliff hangers to keep you up past your bedtime.

Another excellent suspense novel by Griffin. The heroine was a little dense about their relationship, but I loved the hero and the suspense was great.

DNF about 150p in. I pushed on even though I didn't like the male MC at the beginning. But this book is just badly written. The transitions are weird. You'll have a break for chapters, but the feel of the writing is just odd....the two MCs leave each other at the end of a chapter, with no plans to see each other, then they're back together immediately in the next chapter beginning. I can't really explain it, but it's just jarring. Plus, I hate the characters. This one other guy shows up and, maybe I missed it, but I don't understand who he's supposed to be to the female MC at all. Meh. I'm done.

Reading this book was an experience akin to exploring a new city by car. All the sights are new, all the metropolitan smells of industry are charming. The architecture is captivating, the interesting little blemishes have a story all their own to tell. Your neck hurts from all the head swiveling trying to take it all in...until you cross that invisible line into suburbia. All too soon the houses start to look the same, all painted in blasé shades of brown. Instead of charming little boutiques and corner coffee shops, you’re stuck at stoplight after stoplight of big-box store intersections.

I really enjoyed my first Laura Griffin outing. For the first 60% of the book I was totally hooked and my head was spinning while I devoured all the words on the page. The pacing was excellent, the mystery was super interesting, and the characters were far from perfect but I cared about them. And then suddenly, we took a left turn into the mundane. Abruptly we slowed waaay down, nearly halting the suspense to deal with a clichéd romance
Spoilercomplete with a baby plot! Argh!
.

This derailed me a bit. It's not that I don't enjoy the relationship angst. I do! It's not that I don't get people have relationship issues. Of course! I just...well, I just wanted to get back to the 'suspense' aspect of the romantic suspense.

And that's the highest praise I can give for Untraceable. The suspense/mystery was so well done that I didn't want to read any of the kissy stuff that made me pick up the book in the first place. Lately I have read mostly romances and so obviously I look forward to working out vulnerabilities and past hurts and blah blah blah...but not here. I just wanted to nail the bad guy (and not the good way either, with, like a gun or something painful).

Luckily we got back to the good stuff, we got messy, and there were a few satisfying surprises. The trip back to our hotel gave some new vantage points. It was a great little day all around.
