My first book after joining Netgalley, and it was a good one. I knew I was going to be spending time with my godchildren, ages 3 and 5, so I went looking for a cute children's book. It should be obvious I went straight for one that featured a bunny on the cover.

I don't understand where the title comes from. When I saw it, I figured it was something along the lines of "Goodnight Moon", where two friends are talking before going to sleep, or something like that. It doesn't tell you that this is about being afraid, and how everyone is a little afraid of something, and how to make it not so scary.

My godchildren really enjoyed this (though there was a battle over who got to say, "BUNNY!", "PIG!", and "FROG!" when the pages were turned). I judge children's books by how much fun can be had while reading the book aloud, and whether the kids get to interact. And they really got into it. When the monster is "big and ugly", we made silly faces. When the monster crept close, I "snuck" up on Alli. When the monster growled, we all growled at each other.

I can see them grabbing this regularly from the shelf to be read for the fun characters.

This book is super cute.
The story is simple, about Bunny who afraid of the monster and Piggy who give ideas what to do when the monsters come.
Just like most of children books, the illustration is soooo adorable that made me really want to have the printed edition.

Quotes:
Hmm. Maybe I can sing a lullaby so sweet, the monster will fall asleep ...

But when it's dark, there are a million stars to see.

The story is very cute and the characters are sweet, but my only issue is the font used for Piggy's speech. I was reading this book with the 6-year-old I tutor and she already has a hard enough time with telling the difference between I's and L's (and paying attention to the words in general), but Piggy's font makes exclamation marks look like lowercase L's and it even confused me for a moment.

Regardless of that one nitpick, we had fun once we figured that out. I liked how this book addressed the fear of the dark and tried to offer a different way of imagining it.

Love, Love, Love, Love, Love. Two friends out camping, will help each other get over their fears of monsters and the darkness they live in. Perfect illustrations, and a perfectly simple story.
