I genuinely enjoyed Experimental Marine Biology & I truly believe this book was a great addition to the Chemistry Lessons series <3

My only complaint is I wish there was more spice !!! I know this book is meant to be a cute friends to lovers but… it really could of used some more spice.  There was so many moments where I was like “WHAT NO GIVE ME MORE DETAILS” 😭

When moving on to this novel I personally skipped books 3 & 4 in the series. I know this obviously wouldn’t be an issue since each book is a stand alone romance in the same universe but I do like seeing cameos from previous couples. Luckily I found that it followed on incredibly well from the 2nd book !!

Every time I read a friends with benefits romance I think it might be the one that turns me around on the trope but ‘twas not the one. It was honestly so annoying to be stuck in Brooke’s POV the whole time because she’s sort of…the worst?!?

Ok, I just love all these books. Although it was a little short, and I wanted a tiny bit more from the relationship development - I just nerded out about the STEM side.

I recently completed my PhD in molecular biology, and think Nix did such a great job describing the (all too relatable) stress of academia. I was so distracted analysing Brooke's ELISA techniques and having traumatizing flashbacks of refilling pipette boxes that any weaker aspects of this book didn't matter to me.

This started out really well. I was super into a marine biologist heroine, and it delivered on the interesting bits in the beginning. Then suddenly the underwear model enters the picture and BAM, it's all about his hotness and her inner turmoil or whatever. It's like the science and intellect could not coexist with feels and lust. Seriously, after he appeared, the heroine could have been any insecure commitmentphobe. Yawn. Also, less about his extreme diet and fitness regime would have helped. Lots of showing and not telling.

It's a candy fluff main course after one solid bite of an amazing appetizer.

Inoffensively boring. Nothing happens and then there's a chapter for the heroine to meet with characters from previous books (?) to discuss the nothing that happened. Repeat. Characters have no distinguishing characteristics (hero's blue eyes are described constantly but hardly qualify as a personality)
I like that abortion is talked about because that's unfortunately still rare in romance but I hope that soon enough romance writers will catch up to the century and that won't be so remarkable.
