I saw a five-star review for this book and started reading it immediately. Usually I let a book sit in my TBR for weeks before I even look at it so that says something about my level of excitement.

After reading this I’m kind of disappointed? Immediately after I finished reading it I was amazed. It made my mind explode a little but I think I was just getting caught up in the drama. Now that I’m clear-headed there really wasn’t that much point to the book? I loved how it described mental health issues and dysfunctional families but it was virtually plotless. The disjointed writing almost made me stop reading at the first chapter. The twist didn’t need to be there. At all. It actually ruined the whole book.

This book was just sad. The two girl characters, I get the way they acted, because they're children. But the mother's were just pathetically sad. I only gave it 1.75 stars because the ending was so warped that it made reading the entire thing salvageable. Yeah, it was a no  or me.

“Did I Say You Could Go” is a quick, mediocre read.  It sits better in family drama than mystery or thriller.  There wasn’t a mystery to solve nor any thrills.  The most interesting parts of the book are the spiffy cover and potential.  Lord have mercy, there is enough toxic mother daughter potential  to make a series.  I’d love to see Ruth and Marley go another round.  Only stick with family dynamics and dysfunction.  Give us a better, more atrocious Ruth!  We need backstory.  Why was her grandma a raging bitch but her mother was sweet?  What’s the divorce story?  How is Marley going to play (or protect) her dad and step mom?  Is Marley a perpetrator now?
