Който обича да скача в дълбокото - да заповяда на това! Да, в началото книгата не беше много “friendly” настроена. Направо си размята читателя между някакви събития случващи се на няколко континента между хора, магове, богове, древни богове, демони и още кво ли не

I could read this one million times and never get bored.

I really liked this book, but it was pretty dense. It never felt slow-paced while I was reading it, but after setting it down, I was always surprised by how little of it I had read.

That aside, I really liked the worldbuilding and the characters were all interesting. Pretty excited to see where all of this goes.

What a world. Incredible. The best work of fantasy I've read in a while. Since Hobb I'd say.

I found this first book a bit confusing and overly dense. This is the sort of book that would benefit from a glossary, dramatis personae and a map. The names took me a while to get used to because not only is there the usual issue of fantasy names but also fictional official titles which I had to distinguish from personal names and then the basis for the role as well. As I continued through and began to understand a little more of who was who and what their motivations were I settled into the story more. You do get dropped into the story and the author certainly doesn't hold the reader's hand. I found Tattersail and Sorry the most compelling characters but I also enjoyed Paran. If anything the strengths are obvious: the magic system and world building which are almost unparalleled and it's weakness is that it takes too long to care about the characters. However as the series progresses I can foresee joining the ranks of those who advocate so strongly for this series, I'm just not quite there yet.

This is definitely a placeholder rating because what the fuck was this book. I’ll come back and re-rate once I know what I just read.

Strangely the strongest part of this was the center, and its strength was the weakness of the beginning and end.

Quick and unexplained introductions to characters and concepts happen throughout. In book 1 it was definitely difficult to follow. But books 2-6 all walked that line in a much more satisfying way. The questions and characters were really intriguing instead of confusing. Unfortunately book 7 relied more on new introductions to wrap things up, instead of the core cast, with a few exceptions. Might give this slightly under a 4, but interested to continue on with the series.
