This book was a unique experience. It has tons of POV’s and even more non POV characters, which can make the experience of reading it kind of overwhelming. I loved the complex world building and the inner weaving of all the characters in their decisions and how they all impacted each other. It was a little hard to keep track of everything to be honest. But I found a handy guide online that was spoiler free, but also helped me keep who belong to what group and who was for the Darujhistan versus the empire. I would definitely recommend this book. To me, this was a good book but not good enough that I immediately want to dive into the sequel. However, knowing the second book of the series is one of the strongest I think I will keep reading.

i wanted to push through and read this, i really did. but why should reading a book be a challenge?? if your book is infamously difficult to read, maybe you should just be a better writer. like, maybe if there was a reason for it. but no! it's just like that! i'm not gonna numb my mind reading this just for the sake of it.
