Took me 6 months to finish and I restarted the beginning but overall a really good read. Took me several long chapters to get into it but by the second section I was getting more excited about characters and character connections. Love Paran, Tattersail, Crokus, and Kruppe. I’m looking forward to book 2.

The masterpiece that kicked things off. This was a reread, where previously I did the series in audio. I am in awe of how good and deep this is. Malazan is my favorite fantasy series. You will be lost on a first read, just roll with it and you can still love it. Then on a relook, you'll discover how deep the plotting is.

Pacing was a bit off me. An ambitious first novel considering how much was attempted here. I’m in the minority that enjoyed the first half but book 6 did drag for me quite a lot
