i read this back in 2016, did a reread and honestly, this was an okay book.

the spanish dialogue was cringe. i read from blood and ash before rereading this book without the knowledge that armentrout also wrote this. i was absolutely shocked when i found out FBAA was written by the same author who wrote this book.

but comparing the two, it makes absolute sense. a snore fest in the beginning, and 3/4th’s way thru the book shit actually starts to get good. typical of her writing, i’m assuming.

rider is such a dull and boring character. cookie-cutter and surface level. the only character with complexity in this book is mallory, and even then, it’s a bit superficial.

a good read when you’re in middle or high school, like i was when i first picked this up. i’ve outgrown these concepts and don’t find them interesting anymore.

Halfway through, the story felt a bit like it was dragged out, but then SLOWLY it gets better
There's some cliche regarding the romance but the story itself doesn't really focus on the romance so that's okay I guess.

And I like that the side characters also have interesting personalities and stories that make me care for them as much as the MCs. I think that is one of the author's best traits in all of her books that I have read-she writes great side characters.
However we didn't really get a kind of closure(?) on what happened to the side characters or how they're doing in the end and that frustrates me(I know they're just side characters but I need to know!:p)

Rant:
SpoilerI don't like Rider's indecisive attitude. Make up your mind on who you like man!(He took way too long to decide especially considering that most people around him already know who he really wants)
I don't like how despite in a relationship with Paige, Rider's so touchy-feely with Mallory and then he expects for Paige not to be jealous about it; plus he thinks it's okay to be that way with Mallory just because they used to be that way when they were kids. I mean come on! Are you stupid?!
And Mallory too. She knows he has a girlfriend but she still doesn't stop him and then afterwards she feels guilty, but when it happens AGAIN she still didn't do anything!

"Forever was a work in progress."
This book somewhat dissapointed me a little. I was looking for more since there was a huge hype around it, but it was still a great book nonetheless.

I've read a good number of Armentrout's books by now and I can easily say that this is the one I have connected with the most. I also want to hate her because she literally breaks my heart over and over and repairs it. The Problem With Forever deals with a tough issue that I have seen in many YA's but none of them handled like this.

Mallory hasn't had the easiest life. Being in the foster care system you never know where you are going to end up and who are going to meet. Jumping from home to home with Rider, her best friend she managed to escape the worst of her troubled until Mr. Henry. Mr. Henry is the definition of the devil living on earth. He is a abusive phycopath that used any excuse to beat on Rider. Rider was always Mallory's cushion. If she got in trouble Rider stepped in and took the physical beating. She was always told be quiet and never make a noise. After a tragic night and four years of seperate on they never expected to see each other again, especially in high school.

Mallory is such a complex yet simple character that I have no words to describe her. I admire her strength of character and as well as everything she been through. Through out the novel we see Mallory progress from a shy quiet girl who is terrified to use her voice to someone who could stand up in what she wanted and believed in. Her anxieties with certain aspects of her life also made her an easy character for me to related to. Rider is quite a hard book to read, he is still in the system and though in a more stable home with people who consider him family. He doesn't talk about how Mr. Henry affected him. He just wants to know how Mallory, or too him "mouse" handled the aftermath.

The romance is a real slow burn in the book, nothing really happens until the last half of the book. But it's a believable romance. Both characters have their own doubts and demons that they are battling that conflict with each other. But Armentrout wove a beautifully complicated romance into an already complicated story line.

All in all I am so excited for this book to hit shelves and for everyone to experience what I did in the novel. Filled with a heart wrenching story line, a tender romance and the charm that most Armentrout books hold The Problem with Forever is a story that you will never forget.

I had no idea what to expect and I was so pleasantly surprise. I love the characters and the depth of the story. Quick read.
