For the majority of the book it felt like reading a movie, it threw me off a bit in the beginning but i liked the writing style more as i read. Second half of the book was insanely better for me.
As someone in computer science, the book was really relatable in a weird way. Motivational even. As i was reading i felt excited by the idea that there are people in this world who are just as interested in the same things your interested in. Felt like living through the 90s even though i never actually lived through those years in my life.
The book beautifully deals with the complex feeling of love. It felt so real.

went into this with zero expectations and no idea what this book was about. came out so invested in these characters. what a journey. this is peak realistic fiction, in my opinion. a book about art, games, friendship, love, loss and life.

ok time for an art rant

i thought the references to certain famous pieces of art was interesting, namely the great wave off kanagawa by hokusai and tourists by dauna hanson. mount fuji was hokusai’s muse and the great wave off kanagawa is sam and sadie’s, and i suppose that is the cycle of inspiration goes. there is nothing new under the sun but they still create something fresh and original.

also, part of the reason why hokusai made these prints was, for money, because westerners were becoming increasingly interested in woodblock printing. its kind of ironic then since it was hung up in sadie’s room, considering her views on monotising art.

daune hanson is about,, debunking the american dream, i suppose. sculputures about the drudgery of the working class. the author mentioned in the acknowledgments that this was a book about work, and i think it really does a good job at showing the nitty gritty day to day of creating games unlike the grandiose vision of it people have in their heads. perhaps sadie knew that game creation was going to be hard from the getgo.

but im just yapping, its a good book and i liked it.
