I enjoyed her descriptions of places in the Pacific NW, including the San Juan Islands and the fictional (I think) island on which much of the story takes place. There are several places in the book where existential reflections are superbly written and touching. I found the writing about Mycelium and biological processes fascinating. To me, the writing was better than the story, while the whole of the story was much better than it parts. I found the events tedious at times and looked forwarding to finishing the book. I also found it hard to engage with most of the characters. I gave it 4 stars for the writing, stopped short of 5 stars because of how the story was crafted.
This is a good book to read on a cross-country flight, so you don't have any obligations that you'd neglecting because you need to read it all in one sitting.

Found this book to be slow for 90%, but found the last 10% to be interesting.
Moody, eerie ecological thriller with languid observations and a disturbing premise tucked into an imagined recovering Pacific Northwest landscape. Lovely and strange.
