It had potential but after the POV switches and reveal, it really just fell flat. I appreciated the POV switch because yeah, he got annoying and him being a freak was obvious but not overt and that was fine! But the actual fake out was so… lame. I get the point but cool, a man faced no consequence 🤓👍🏻 like girl I’m reading fiction, beat his ass or SOMETHING. BUT HE GETS PUT ON A HOT LIST? Die.

Book club book - really looking forward to talking about this one!!
‘I’m a woman, which means I have to expect to be seen as an unlikable character.’
A story of how the men who are usually the loudest about “being one of the good guys” are quite often the ones who are not good at all (or at least are blind to the fact that they are part of the problem).
I think this is one for all men and women to read. For its message about violence against women, and how it’s perceived and recieved and judged by society and the media as a whole. It feels very much on point during our current social climate with everything going on in the world - especially in America and UK so far this year.
I would highly recommend the audiobook as the cast, narrators, sound effects and production as a whole is great and so immersive! The use of different voice actors and sound effects for the social media comments and posts were particularly effective and really brought these minor characters to life - most of which really highlighted the disgusting comments from men against women on social platforms. Something that again feels very on brand for society right now and an accurate depiction of the kind of comments I personally see on many posts on a daily basis from men.
The characters, the plot and the dialogue all deliver awareness and an important message shrouded by unease that makes for a tense and thought-provoking thriller.
Themes of emotional abuse, rape, predatory/dubious sexual interests/consent, delusional male, violence against women, women supporting and protecting other women, women getting revenge, society, social media keyboard trolls/warriors and the media victim blaming (and yes that includes female journalists), and more.
‘Has anyone ever told you that they’re protecting you, or that they know you better than you know yourself, or that no one will ever love you like they do? Have you ever said those words? Consider what those sentiments mean. It’s all violence, when you think about it.’
