Intriguing and thought-provoking. Not sure about the different ways the story’s told, and not sure about the characters’ depth. But, couldn’t put it down!

What a wild ride! Cole and Mel are trying to survive a marriage suffering from fertility issues and power struggles. The first part of the story is told from Cole’s perspective, the second from Mel and the third is an epistolary section of third parties sharing their thoughts on all that transpires after Cole and Mel break up.
slow-paced

well, this was something...
this book was one of my most anticipated reads of this year, and I am honestly disappointed?

first part of the book was REALLY hard to get through. cole was pain in my ass. mel and lennie werent my fav characters, but ig they were alright. the 2 girls that got lost - i genuinely dont have anything to say. in conclusion the characters werent the best.

this wasnt really good mystery or thriller, i feel like it was about getting the message more. a lot of points made in the book - i could 100% resonate with. but i feel like the topic was pointed out wrongly?

the end disappointed me... and honestly i expected more from this book in general

Holy shit.
It's not that often that I'd call a mystery/thriller book powerful, but this shit was powerful.
At least I was the perfect reader for it, as I found plenty of things in this book that I sadly connected way too much with.

“Has anyone ever told you that they’re protecting you, or that they know you better than you know yourself, or that no one will ever love you like they do? Have you ever said those words? Consider what those sentiments mean. It’s all violence, when you think about it.”

“the truth is, men who want to protect women should never be trusted because we only feel the impulse to protect the things we think of as weaker than ourselves.”

"You know, before I spoke [...] about it. I didn't even think of it as rape."

I'm not gonna go into it here in a Goodreads review because it's obviously quite heavy, but man.

Why is this not a 5/5 then? The ending was a bit of an anticlimax. Compared to the rest of the book it wasn't really doing it for me. I liked a lot about it, but it just felt like the power and punch had left the pages a bit too early for the ending to be satisfying.
