Binge-read this book club pick in one day and I found it really engaging as soon as we left Cole's POV.

I honestly thought it was super badly written and predictable when we were in Cole's POV and I really rolled my eyes at it, obviously not realising it was all intentional rather than just bad writing.

Definitely a lot to think about!

What a ride of a book looking into gender, consent and misogyny.

The novel begins in 1st person with the 2nd half an epistolary format, incorporating tweets, Reddit posts and newspaper articles,

Cole, embodies a toxic man that may recognise: gaslighting, delusion, and manipulative.

I’ve come across reviews from people saying they felt sorry for Cole.

The story pushes readers to face their own feelings and biases which ultimately shows that any sympathy for Cole highlights the ingrained societal ideas that protect and excuse male behavior.

The book's feminist vibe really hits home, making me feel like we need to take action against the patriarchy right now.

Down with the patriarchy!

This book honestly kept me guessing throughout trying to figure out what was going on. Going into this book as a DV advocate, I was willing to acknowledge that Cole could well have been a victim of emotional abuse (not that that excuses anything), and then obviously got made a fool of.

It's a heavy book and one I don't think I would have picked up if it wasn't for a book club read, but I'm definitely not mad about reading it.

Ngl, almost DNF as the first part was so hard to read (which I get was the point). Prompted a lot of thoughts - not sure how I feel overall about it.

It started slow, I almost DNF the book but.. I went back to it and finished it quickly. I enjoyed reading it, and the twist at the end.
It's in a 3 pov which I liked reading each of their side of the story. I wouldn't class it as a thriller at all, and there is mystery in it with the who-done-it side of things. I rated this a 3-star as it wasn't the best read but it was enjoyable once you get into it. Also, I got more into it with the audio.
