Poor last novel, far from the emotionally strong characters usually depicted in Remarques work, surely inspired by his own refuge in the USA, all characters keep blurry and uninspired in their action - lots of repetitions and dead end plot strings. Maybe due to the strong influence of the american publisher, who knows. But as far as I'm concerned the last Remarque to be read in a long time. Consider "AQATWF", "Heaven has no Favourites" and "Arc of Triumph" his best works. meh
