Badly written, characters were flat and had no personality, romance made no sence, overall really boring

I liked Penn & Raff’s love story & the spice es that came with it, but had trouble keeping myself interested in the book. Could be cuz I don’t typically read historical fiction

Gentlemen! Talk to each other!

It was very sweet and well written, even if that isn’t my favorite trope. I was not prepared for the degree of emotions happening, for all that I like slow-build and longing

This was a really sweet romance set in the 1300s which isn’t an era I read often at all, so it was fun to mix things up a little in that regard.

I found the plot a little lacking? It’s a cosy little road trip story but next to nothing happens for most of the book which was a little underwhelming.

Raff and Penn are both characters who are easy to love. They both just want a simple life, to enjoy simple pleasures and some time to themselves. But where Raff is surrounded by love, Penn doesn’t have much love in his life at all.

Penn’s story honestly broke my heart. His father is the absolute worst and I wished he’d faced more on-page consequences in all honesty. It wasn’t nearly satisfying enough just to see him have to concede and lose favour.

I adored Raff’s family, too, and I definitely need to pick up Jo and Lily’s story ASAP!

I know romance novels are mostly just for enjoyment and (I think) should be regarded lightly, but that also doesn’t mean that the plot and the characters aren’t worthy of being created thoughtfully and have some depth (that is after all what makes these formulaic type novels that romances are work- the heart of the characters and a plot that doesn’t feel rushed or careless). That’s why I’m giving this one 5 stars- I so enjoyed the will-they-won’t-they playfulness of the two characters getting together. There was an honest and plausible reason the characters would have conflict in their story- I sometimes think some romance novels have conflicts that seem a bit of stretch, as if the author is forcing a trope or narrative. I didn’t feel this way at all for this story. I love that each character was on their own journey and crossed paths, I devoured the book waiting for the couple to get together, to figure out their own feelings, fell in love with their relationship and ached for them to resolve their conflict in the end to have a happily ever after. I can’t wait to read the next one!
