10000/10 absolutely amazing. I was hooked from the very beginning. So many jaw-droppint moments. HIGHLY recommend listening to the audiobook with the full cast- like a movie but without the picture. Definitely worth the wait!
I'll be buying these books for my personal collection. Just... stunning.

amazing!!! first book to get me out of my reading slump. plot was pretty good, world building was detailed - very divergent like. the dragons and characters banter was really funny, and the ROMANCE was AMAZING. plot really speeds up near the end, with an epic cliffhanger!!! thought about this book for days and needed the next book immediately.

Nothing in this book makes sense and there are so many plot holes. Having violet just monologue history is such lazy worldbuilding. I have so many questions that are left unanswered and make the entire plot completely unbelievable.
Why can’t dragons fight without being bonded?? Why is a country at war letting so many of their elite fighting population die and kill each other?? Violet is supposed to have trained her entire life to be a scribe except for the past six months and you’re telling me that six months is enough for her to become the best knife thrower??
The plot is so predictable that it was just boring to read because I knew what would happen many chapters in advance. There’s no mystery or intrigue and the main characters are never challenged in any real way that they might actually die.
The writing also makes it so hard to be immersed in the world. This is supposed to be a fantasy setting but there is so much modern language that it completely takes you out of the story. For example, the challenge called the Gauntlet that’s literally just American Ninja Warrior.
Also the ending where Violets brother turns out to be alive in the last sentence was so underwhelming. My genuine first thought was “that’s it?” I thought my phone had paused the audiobook somehow because the ending was so sudden. For such a big plot twist to fall so flat is actually impressive.
If I hadn’t been listening to the audiobook I would not have been able to finish this-at least the narrators did a decent job.
What a waste of time.
