Went into this with high expectations, came out of it with them being hugely surpassed. This book is absolutely fantastic, twisting and turning, all the while drawing you further and further into the world that’s being built. Is it too bold to compare this to Harry Potter? I had very similar feelings whilst reading this. Iron Flame can’t come soon enough

I don’t know where to start, other than to say what a book.

I expected to enjoy it, based on the reviews and what others had said. What I didn’t expect was it to ruin all other books for me for the foreseeable future because they simply won’t compare.

The writing, the plot, the characters have all been so carefully crafted into such an incredible story. I simply cannot wait to read more of this series, in fact I’ll be counting down the days until Iron Flame is released.

Xaden, nothing more needs to be said, if you’ve read it, you know. If you haven’t, read it and join the club

Not gonna lie- I read Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros because of all the hype around it. The book is about Violet Sorrengail, daughter of the Basgiath War College commanding general. Violet was trained to be a scribe until her father died. Then her mother forced her into joining the rider’s quadrant; a deadly task. Violet will have to fight to survive long enough to possibly bond with a dragon, learn who she can trust, and what secrets are being hidden from those risking their lives. I was skeptical going into this read and wasn’t sure I would enjoy it. This book surprised me. I came to really like the main characters. Violet is a woman who comes into her own. She is constantly being underestimated and overcoming odds and expectations. She speaks her mind and stands up for herself even if it means she could lose a relationship in her life. Xaden is a good match for her, helping to lift her up and find her own feet. This book made me mad at some points- Dain is a dumb bitch and you can’t tell me otherwise. You cannot claim someone is your friend and consistently act as if they aren’t capable of making their own choices. Being controlling, cowardly, and manipulative is not being a friend, and certainly isn’t how you treat someone you claim to be in love with. I swear the gauntlet is ripped from an episode of American Ninja Warrior. I actually laughed out loud at several points. The author doesn’t balk at randomly killing characters you have come to love. I personally would have been annoyed if I had read this before the sequel came out because we ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and I have questions. Glad I can immediately start the 2nd book. I debated if this is a 4 or 5 star read for me. When I look back at my 4 star reads for December, I like this one better so it gets 5/5 stars. This is my 111th book read in 2023 and the last one of the year.
