This kind of unabashedly gay contemporary poetry is exactly what I've been looking for. It's introspective and personal, showing so much vulnerability and personal experience especially in the dynamic of being gay and native. At the same time, it also has such much to say on where we're at with gay culture and the impact technology has on relationship dynamics. Already eager to revisit it!

Hard hitting poetry that was incredibly lyrical and unlike anything I’ve read before.

Poetry isn’t really my thing, but I enjoyed listening to this audiobook which is narrated by the author. I wonder if I would get more out of it physically reading the text, and I definitely want to check out some of Pico’s novels.

It's hard to decide when to pause in this book/poem, but the ebb and flow of it is very impressive.

Wow. This poem is powerful and clever and messy and beautiful and thought provoking. I will definitely be listening to it again in the future.

Wow. I don’t even know what to say, this was awesome!! The feel and the rhythm was so captivating.

It was beautifully queer and beautifully indigenous and beautifully human.

I would read all the poetry by this author. The experience of this as an audiobook read by the author gave the poetry this extra level of connection and emotion.

For me, it was a little challenging to read as it is described as “a sweaty, summertime poem composed like a long text message” and the blurb nails that description precisely 👌🏽 so I appreciated the pauses when they came to take some time to sort out what I read 😅

Worth rereading in the hopes of better understanding the narrative but these were just some of the lines that popped out for me:

“It’s important to be alone / again. / Just what is so scary abt / the cave? I… I can hear / my heart beating in there / and I don’t like it. / In an effort to connect, / fingers will click open / more and more tabs.” (30)

“…there are four / states of Muse: / Solitude / Intimacy / Anonymity / Reserve” (30)

“There’s my body, / and then there’s yore / body, n somehow you see / a person where I can’t / even look long enough / to form a lasting impression. Friend, / yr essential but there’s so much / you can’t say to me / right now” (51)

“Good/Bad, / Right/Wrong, Binary is / another weapon of the / oppressor Justifies conquest / And is a method to ensure / survivors, if there are any, will / always question their worth / to literally just live.” (87-88)
