I have never been as emotionally touched by a book as I was here. The book is an interesting depiction of how time travel would impact relationships. I especially like how time travel has its impact on storytelling: there are ‘spoilers’ about what will happen in the future or past, but none actually spoil the story. It just made me think: ‘hmm, interesting, how will this develop‘. Currently one of the best reads of my life.

Reread.
I first read this in 2009. There's a lot of issues in both the time travel and romance elements.

I was very excited to read this but it felt like the book was written just to evoke emotions in the readers. The characters have no real depth and the plot felt extremely contrived and pretentious.

Additionally, this book brushes over the fact that Henry essentially grooms Clare from age 6 by showing up naked near her house when she is 6 and he's 36 and then goes on to have several meetings with her over the years painting himself as his future lovee/husband, not to forget, he has sex with her very shortly after she turns 18 and he is in his 40s.

This novel dragged on for a long time and a lot of unimportant details were mentioned at length and the important issues were just brushed past (like Clare getting assaulted and Henry avenging her by harassing another minor???) The characters are kind of plain, specifically Clare, who have nothing in common really. And the ending just did not really contribute much to anything apart from maybe generating some tears from the readers. It did nothing to develop characters or the story in a meaningful way.

This was not the time travel book i expected it to be. Not recommended!!!!

I thought this was a clever premise and well-told. It's nice to read a romance that doesn't end at the marriage. Life can be complicated and difficult, but the love can last. There is a fair amount of language & sexual content in this book.

I wanted to like this book so badly. There was just too much standing in my way. The premise was fascinating and there ARE some things written so beautifully, especially the endurance of love. However...

I could not get over how pedophilic it felt with him visiting her as a child (grooming). I did not like that Clare's character revolved around waiting for a man and desperately wanting to give birth to a child. Both main characters felt selfish to me at different points, the most notable example being when Henry couldn't even muster a half-hearted apology to Ingrid to try and stop her suicide. Also, having him lose his feet felt so off with the rest of the book amd didn't add anything to the plot or character develooment overall. Most of the sex that happens or is referenced to is problematic. Finally, the characters' self-importance and grandiosity was obnoxious (fancy parties, cool smoking, only the most elite music and art making, etc).

So while I tried, this one gets a lower rating from me.
