A great follow up to Angelfire. I thought that this second book was more dramatic than the first one, with all the events that happened. In this book, the relationship between Ellie and Will is deepened and Ellie also bonds with Cadan as well. I didn't like how the events in this book were even more tragic than the first book, but I guess that's just the life of the Preliator. The new characters were refreshing and took all the attention off of Will and Ellie. Marcus kind of reminds me of Emmet from Twilight, I don't know why but when I picture him I think of a burley guy like Emmet. Ava.... I don't know who she reminds me of, but towards the end of the book, I've grown a kind of respect for her like Ellie did. Towards the end when everything was all happy, I started getting suspicious that the happiness wouldn't last long and that soon something bad would happen to leave the book as a cliff hanger. I kept wondering why the story was dragging on and didn't just end with one of the happy birthday party scene..... Well, my suspicions had been correct. It was sad that something bad had to happen after all the crappy things that had already happened to Ellie, especially sad that it happened when she was most emotional. In the good way. Now, I'm left to wait to see if more tragic things will keep happening to Ellie or whether something will go right and not turn out to be a good turned sour moment. Overall I enjoyed the drama, action, and romance. Allison Courtney Moulton is talented.

After the ending of this book, I am so glad that I am able to pick up book three immediately. What a killer ending!

The only complaint I have is about the writing of the fight scenes. Seriously? People are fighting for their lives and all she's doing is standing there and watching? The fight scenes feel extremely slow and stupid. It did not make me feel like I was in suspense, instead I couldn't wait for it to be over. I normally love battle scenes so this was extremely disappointing. Also, some stuff I just found really predictable.

SpoilerFor example, Cadan being Bastian's son? I saw it coming. Will having a demonic origin somewhere? Ditto.
And that scene where Bastian was asking Sammael for a moment just to talk to Will, and they happened to escape at that time... Seriously, I didn't even know Sammael left the room. what kind of idjit leaves someone as important to them as the Preliator alone.

Overall, some parts were amazing but it was just those little things.

This book is still as great as I remembered it to be! We see so much action that no one anticipates and the plot twists make the book so fresh(even after reading it twice!). Will finally allows himself to love Ellie and they make the perfect couple(with their imperfections obviously). We lose some people and gain some people in the process, but overall, love the action and mythology.

Second books are typically place holders. They clear up a few things from the first book, introduce a few new complications that will be resolved in the third book (often a competing love interest), and have somewhat of a plot. They generally disappoint. Wings of the Wicked is one of the few second books that outdid the first book in the series.

I was reluctant to read Wings of the Wicked at first. I enjoyed Angelfire, but there were numerous things that I disliked about it. All those elements were still present in Wings of the Wicked. I started out not enjoying the book all that much.

My problems with the book/series? First off, I don't like angels/demons. Ironically, they are the paranormal creature that I have the most difficult time believing in. Ms. Moulton has created an interesting set of demons in this series and I like the idea of a super-powerful Preliator who lives again and again to fight evil creatures. However, whenever these demonic reapers open their mouths, their words make me laugh rather than quake in fear - at them, not with them. Ellie's fighting dialogue is just as bad. It's much harder to take paranormal creatures seriously when you spend much of the book rolling your eyes at them.

I also think that Ellie is immature in many ways. She spends much of her free time hanging out with her friends and partying. Pretty typical teenager, but she does this at the expense of fight training of hunting for demonic reapers. Part of my applauds her for maintaining balance in her life. It shows that she has a strong sense of self unlike many girls involved in paranormal novels who throw their former lives away. But the other part of me sees her as naive and irresponsible. Damned if you do, damned if you don't I suppose.

Onto what I liked about the novel. The action is fantastic. If you ignore the dialogue, there are many great fight scenes. I love how Ellie is in the middle of all the fighting and the strongest, most powerful person around - far outstripping the boys. Girl power! The action is very well written. The sword and hand-to-hand combat is described in vivid detail and Ms. Moulton knows just how to structure a scene so that the suspense peaks at the perfect time. The book flows very well, mixing character development and action scenes. It allows you to quickly read a 500+ page novel, because the pages speed by.

As I expected, Wings of the Wicked, takes care of several plot holes leftover from the first book. One in particular wasn't a big surprise, but how it was handled was shocking. That's what I liked most about this book. Ms. Moulton wasn't afraid to take the plot in directions that I never expected. She was ruthless with her characters. The book started out plodding along in typical second book fashion and then...BOOM! By the middle of the book, any skepticism about the second bookishness of Wings of the Wicked disappeared. Then I held on for a wild ride.

Will continues to be a kind, loyal leading man. He's a little boring at times. So serious and focused. But he did manage to forget himself often enough to bring about some fabulous, hot kissing scenes. Thankfully, we see a lot more of Nathaniel, who was my favorite character from the first book. He's so kind, smart, and funny. He was a great big brother type figure for Will and even Ellie. Cadan is a new character - a demonic reaper who is actually trying to help Ellie. Or is he? Ellie and the reader puzzle over his motives and whether he is being truthful. He is the bad-boy, sexy, dangerous types that I always fall for in paranormal novels. But fear not...there's not a love triangle per se. Mostly a charged partnership.

The Angelfire series is not perfect, but Wings of the Wicked made my attachment for the series grow. I'm still not the biggest fan of the characters or the paranormal element, but the plot is so fantastic that I definitely recommend it. If you like books that take you in a wild ride in directions you never expected, you must pick up Wings of the Wicked.

This series continues to be in a class of books I always consider a win. When I started this book I'd just been burned hardcore by a few other books, and I wanted something I KNEW I'd like. Moulton delivered exactly what I wanted in every possible way.

Ellie is finally growing up a little but still maintaining her duties. I had a hard time accepting her behavior and rationality early on, but by the end I think she's finally gotten that wake up call, and I'm seriously looking forward to book three.

The biggest thing I wanted (and got) from Wings of the Wicked was a sense of who the Preliator was. We got to see into Ellie's memories, and feelings, and experiences from past lives. That's what I was really hoping for, and it was brilliantly executed.

Obviously the cliffhanger at the end was pretty evil, but that's okay. I'm probably one of the few people who'd like to see Cadan make a move on Ellie. I know, I know... Will doesn't deserve that. I'm not disagreeing, but come on!! Cadan is just so WRONG it's RIGHT. At least maybe a kiss? A little one?

Wings of the Wicked has a great mix of adventure, romance and fighting evil in the continuing story of Ellie and Will.

I will readily admit that I was not that into Angelfire, the first book in this series. The storyline seemed intriguing, but there were too many inconsistent things that bothered me. However, this was not so for Wings of the Wicked. I was immediately drawn into the story and found it hard to put the book down.

I loved the relationship between Ellie and Will. The back and forth between them and the always wondering if they would end up having a real relationship beyond Preliator and protector was intriguing and had me turning pages long past when I told myself I would stop reading. I also liked the introduction of Marcus and Ava, two of Will’s fellow reapers. I felt that these two characters made the story richer, especially after learning Ava’s back story and why she is such an intense fighter against evil.

And Caden, what can I say, I love the character of Caden. He was a surprising and welcome addition to the cast of characters in Angelfire and Wings of the Wicked. I only hope that he has a central role in the following book, though after the ending of Wings of the Wicked, I can’t see how that could be avoided.

Wings of the Wicked is a blow your hair back, roller coaster ride. There is action and adventure, love and loss – something to entice readers of all kinds. I can’t wait to read the final novel in this trilogy and see author Moulton ends the stories of Will, Ellie and all the other fascinating characters in this series.

Updated Review 6/20/14: Holy crap. There was so many things I totally forget that happened in this book! Even though I've already read it, I was so surprised with everything, due to the fact that I kinda forgot what happened throughout the book. Overral, I really loved it! :)

This book is so freaking awesome! I loved everything about it! though the ending is eating me from the inside out which really sucks. I now have to wait a year for the next book to come out :(

Wings of the Wicked, sequel to Angelfire, pretty much picks off where the first one left off. Ellie is still patrolling the streets with her Guardian, Will. The book is full of action and romance and a tinge of humor here and there.

The positives include:
-Concept: I love the concept in this series. Good and bad. Ellie being Gabriel's vessel. You can tell I'm a Supernatural fan, can't you? The educational stories in the book about fallen angels, Lilith etc. are really interesting and are some of my favorite scenes in the book.
-Action: When Ellie is not being beaten and we have to read about it, then the action scenes are great to read.
-Cadan: I love Cadan. I do. I prefer him to Will because I love his personality more. The scene he is in with Ellie show Ellie's funnier, more feisty side which is often lost. I must say I think I may be a Callie shipper.
-Twists: There are deaths in this book that I DID NOT expect and they made me all sad and stuff yet there were definitely interesting twists. Along with that the ending to the book is also quite a plot turner that will take the third book in a whole new direction. The plot twist gave the book a well needed push in the right direction.

There was a few negative parts in Wings of the Wicked:
-Romance: Firstly, the whining. We are aware Ellie loves Will and Will loves Ellie. Are they actually in love? It is actually never said they are in love but only that they love each other and since that is brought up in practically every page of the book it's hard to forget. I felt that sometimes the book was over-flowing in teenage hormones and romance. Then you have the hot and cold aspect between Ellie and Will that is thrown back and forth throughout the book.
-Ellie: What irritated me about Ellie was how she is meant to be the Preliator yet during the most of the fight sequences she was on the ground at the mercy of Virs and what not. She was always being saved. Towards the end of the book, she became a little tougher but for the most part, she was careless and reckless throughout fights. Also, the lack of maturity she shows during the book is frankly annoying. She is only seventeen and I was seventeen once but I don't remember being that emotionally unstable. There has to be about twenty crying scenes throughout the book. Also, how she acts about Will and Ava was just embarrassing. Damn girl, you were dead. You have no right to make him feel guilty about getting it on ONCE with angelic reaper.
-Will: I liked Will in the first book but in Wings of the Wicked, he had seemed to have taken on quite the Edward Cullen role. We get it, you have to protect the Preliator, but picking Ellie up and throwing her over your shoulder because she isn't doing you say will get you a red card from me.
-Plot: The plot needs to be tightened up. The last few chapters of the book had a lot of unnecessary scenes which in no way gave the story and progression. Moulton's writing, I felt was a bit too repetitive at times.

Wings of the Wicked does include underage drinking, domestic violence, attempted rape (we think) and a lot of violence so I advise this definitely for older YA readers. I am torn between what to give Wings of the Wicked. When I was reading the great parts of the book, I forgot about the not so great parts which is why I think I am torn. I have give it a three and half. I enjoyed it and will read the third book but there is too many negatives which does pull the rating down.

Rating: 3.5/5.
