For a Game of Thrones book.... this one is definitely setting up things that are going to happen in part 2. Not much has happened other than preparation. I know what is coming due to the series but if you hadn't, I think you would have thought that this book was rather slow. Excited to read part 2 as reading Game of Thrones we need some death and gore haha.
i really loved it and i cant wait for the next one :)
Wow - the best one yet! Loved book 1, enjoyed book 2 but got a bit bogged down with long battles, but book 3 ( part 1) is amazing! Characters getting physically close - separated by half a day on the road, a boardwalk across a swampland or a castle tower - adds to the drama and suspense. Knights are changing sides, regrouping, examining political allegiances, nursing there wounds and counting the costs of war. Rebels and low folk show tenacity, moral fibre and good sense as the whole politics of the wall - and the rights to land, sea and air, who we let in or keep out, couldn't feel more relevant if it tried!
I am slowly getting into this series, I am pushing myself through the books and I always find after the first 3rd I am truly into it and find it difficult to put down. The only downside is that the first 3rd to the first half can be a real slog to get through. George RR Martin is very descriptive with his writing, which I don’t think is a bad thing, but when the action isn’t really going anywhere it can very difficult to get through. After getting past the 40% mark in the book; I was really enjoying myself and felt invested in the story. The same thing happened with the 1st and 2nd book. It takes me well more than 1 month to get through these hugeeee books but they 100% worth it.
The characters:
I believe the characters are developing a lot and I am quickly finding characters I love reading about, a couple of these are:
Brienne
Jaimie
Arya
Jon
Daenerys
I am still not getting on with the Catelyn or the Bran chapters of the storyline and find myself complaining as I get to them. Samwell and Davos viewpoints also get brought into this book, which is interesting as we get to see the plotlines develop from another two different characters views. I am really really rooting for Jaime and Brienne and I am excited to see how these two grow in the upcoming books.
Final thoughts:
I am 100% carrying on with these books. I haven’t seen all the TV series I have seen bits as my husband has watched them but I am hoping to ask him questions throughout to see how they are differing from each other.
I would recommend this series to people who love EPIC fantasies and who loves reading a complex world from multiple peoples POV’s

Finally got through it, only took me a whole month! 😂
Note to self: do not start any more GoT until you are on a holiday! 🙈

I enjoyed this first part of the 3rd book so much more than the 2nd, simply because the pace was a lot faster, and the font size was much bigger. 10x less headaches!
More superbly enjoyable epic storytelling. I find myself incapable of now doing anything other than picking up the next volume
FINALLY FINISHED IT OMG
This was so good honestly I'm sad it took me so long to finish it, but I've been lazy to read ASOIAF now :( I don't know why because I love this series so much but!!! Not really in the mood lately.
Anywaaaaay, Jon Snow's chapters are growing on me now and I love him more and more and actually Daenerys chapters weren't as boring as before (praying for it to continue that way tbh).
I'm so not ready for the next one ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The war of the Five Kings continues, and the aftermath of each battle scatters the protagonists further afield all over Westeros. While lands continue to be won and lost on battlefields and in bedchambers alike; The precarious state of The North may prove to be an even bigger concern than who wins the right to sit atop the Iron Throne. Martin's prose weaves together the intricacies of familial politics and power, whilst still creating rich characters that shine in a cast of thousands, whether that be for their villainy or heroism.
