The book picks up from somewhere halfway through the end of Clash of Kings so we are taken back to the time when the Battle of Blackwater is still being fought. George RR Martin continues with a painfully slow build up and relentless butchering of characters. The kings continue their Game of Thrones oblivious to the dangers from across the Sea and The Wall. Volume 1 of Book 3 comes across as the setting up of the stage before the real action begins and I hope Volume 2 (Blood and Gold) delivers what it promises.

I sincerely hope it does not get bleaker than this in the next instalments and we see a light at the end of the tunnel. If one more house/sigil/banner is introduced, that would be the end of my memory retention capacity for sure.

P.S. Why 3 stars only? Lack of real action and introduction of
too many Houses and unrelated characters.

P.P.S Narrations by Jaime and Tarly are a real treat :)
