The last third of the book was definitely the best. It's worth sticking through the slightly slower bits in the middle.

I loved this book, but I love time travel stories, so I'm predisposed. My only not to pick, that keeps it from getting 5 stars is:

"The time machines wouldn't transport anyone further than three hundred years into the future... It was almost as if the supporting infrastructure disappeared in 2267"

Nine pages later...

"Conclave justice... has more in common with... twenty-fourth century Britain..."

Am I the only one who sees the problem here?

2267 is the twenty-third century. They would have no knowledge of the twenty-fourth century or beyond. IT DROVE ME CRAZY.

Someone please explain to me how I'm wrong here, because everything else in this books seems too locked down tight to allow for such an obvious inconsistency.

A difficult and weird ride of a book that rewards careful reading.

Time travel can be a really difficult narrative to do well, and this story does it well. Kate Mascarenhas balances the fine line in a mystery of giving the reader enough information to make some guesses, yet still providing twists and turns. There is a lot of emotional depth in the interwoven storylines and very clever connections. The story benefits from focusing on interpersonal relationships and multiple female perspectives. Some small nods to explaining the complicated science of time travel don't weigh down the story, which is ultimately more concerned with people. I also appreciate that there is a very nuanced take on mental illness written into this story.

Overall, this is a really fresh take on time travel. It is also a really interesting story about female friendships and rivalries and loves. It invites you to think about how you would respond to being able to know about the future or the repercussions of having a chronological timeline that differs from those around you.

This book was disappointing on many levels. Like other readers, I was anticipating something with some depth, but there really was none.

It's refreshing to have a book that is so female driven that male characters are only on the periphery, but this novelty is ruined by the frivolous delicacy of most of the women, excepting of course the one self-absorbed, unfeeling, cruel bitch. (I suppose there HAS to be at least one bitch in a group of women for authenticity's sake....hasn't there?) Seriously though, most of the women in this book are far too stupid and anxiety-ridden to have ever invented time travel. I'm surprised some of them even know how to tie their shoes. (Although, to be fair, this may have had a little to do with the voice of the actor reading the audiobook, but not entirely.) Add to that the absurdity of being unable to alter timelines while venturing through time and the ability to hang out with earlier and later selves without ramifications, and I simply couldn't suspend reality enough to ever buy in.

The one redeeming feature of the story was the discussion of how time travel might impact us psychologically; however, it simply wasn't enough to elevate this book beyond the "complete waste of my time" level.

This was an enjoyable read that combined science fiction and gentle feminism. Strong characters and a mystery plot make for a feel good read.

Ignore the fact that it took me 2 months to read this book. This should have been a quick run ready, but I fell into an unrelated reading rut.

Badly written and terribly edited. Doesn't anyone know how to proofread?

A murder mystery stretched over time and lives. A puzzle in time and over time, paradoxes and lives woven together to become a magnificent tapestry in a book.
The book is special as it hold a near full female cast . It is remarkable that it is 2018 and this is something I have to note in a review!
Anyway the women are strong, strong willed and smart. Such a nice change form he average time travel book, where women are often the waiting anticipating party. Not the inventors, travellers and sick geniuses. The men are there, more in classic female roles. The background , concerned or just wallpaper and fill in. The book shows that strong characters and story are more important than the gender of the people featuring in it. I have to love it because of that.

I liked the story the weaving and the mystery pulled me in I was pretty sure early on the victim and right The murderer was bigger issue and I kept ging between a number of suspects. As it turns out I was right. It is there in the book blindingly obvious, once you finish the book.Nothing like 20/20 vision hindsight when it comes to a good murder mystery.

The biggest drawback and appeal of any time travel story is keeping track of the time. It is very much a love hate relationship But it is quite interesting to see or once that timelines allow meeting oneself . The classic time paradox is not present in the book. Quite te opposite really The timetravellers selves are interwoven in each others life and gives in part rise to the title of the book.

I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone that loves time travel and puzzels. As a murder mystery it is not the strongest but quite fun. The reason for 4 stars it that I found the writing style a little blunt and stunted at times. Some characters suffered because of that and that was my one reason to not go to 5
