Absolutely brilliant, but perhaps a few too many characters.

Very interesting imagining of what time travel would be like if it was invented in 60s england. Feels too accurate. Unfortunately I didn't care much for the characters.

A very good time-travelling murder mystery. The story focuses on the relationships amongst characters. Though these can be a little confusing with their interwoven, overlapping relationships through time, it is put together in a really interesting way. I found it an intriguing, creative, fresh story. It’s not hard sci fi - there are vague references to how the time-machines work, but really, you have to suspend disbelief at the time-travel device & get into the story of the characters and how they interact in a world where this is possible.

A couple of quibbles: 1. Vet quibble: The rabbit at the beginning is described as having every hair trembling in fear one minute (when it arrives at the compound to be the first animal to time-travel) but one of the four pioneers describes its heart & respiration rates as ‘normal range’.... firstly it wouldn’t be normal if it’s shaking with fear would it?, and secondly, either don’t say this awkward wording, or look up what the normal heart rate for a rabbit is!

2. Grammar quibble. P. 193 Odette’s father is described as having to ‘hold his piece’ (gun? sandwich?) .... Gah! Should be peace.

This has been on my shelf for years, and I'm glad I finally read it. The guts of the story is a murder mystery, which is not my preference, but I will try not to let that cloud my judgement.  The time travel and the potential mental health effects it could have were well researched, and different to anything I've read before. It's a shame this is a standalone; I think a series set in this universe would work really well. I liked the main characters, but I got a little mixed up between all the side characters and how they were related. I did enjoy that women had the monopoly on time travel!
