maybe the most disappointed in a book i've been in a long time. queerness is made both accessory and token, and the story north is trying to tell in no way justifies the alternate history she's created for it. absolutely wild to me that you can set out to purport that biological essentialism is bad (but perhaps i'm giving her too much credit?) and then come up with a book that is... very much supportive of biological essentialism. even aside from my own icky feelings about outlawed as a queer person, so much of what north has done here feels like craft malpractice.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. This is definitely different than what I’d usually choose to read, but it was a great change of pace. Many of themes were relatable for me as a gay woman, such as feeling othered just because of who you are and finding your chosen family. I felt that the ending was a bit rushed and there was more of the story to be told.

I LOVED this book! The adventure was fast-paced and exhilarating while also making your heart pound with intensity. The characters are lovable and I loved seeing how their flaws played into their actions through the story. With that being said, sometimes the fast-paced was a little too fast, making it hard to truly feel the impact of some of the scenes. But I would definitely read this book again!

I appreciated the female outlaw aspect and the protection they provided each other while pushing against societal norms. Overall it wasn’t my favorite book just because I prefer a different genre but I don’t think i would tel anyone it isn’t worth reading. If it’s on your tbr keep it on there
