I give this book 4 stars as its really an almost 5 star book but not just perfect. I had read Center’s previous book How to Walk Away and loved it and knew her writing as spot on. Also, Center writes strong female characters and normal…if that can be a thing but you can see yourself in their shoes (well maybe not Cassie since I can’t do a pull-up to save my life) and have a life like theirs.
Cassie is a badass firefighter, a female which is not the normal and is in a progressive department in Austin, TX where she is earning top honors. It seems be going just fine until getting her reward she has to be surround by a guy she hates, and well she nails him after he touches her ass.
She is given options and one is to go live with her Mom in a small town outside of Boston. She takes that one and is told to expect the worst and then some from her new department since the captain does not like women let alone one in some blues.
One of the reasons I really liked this book was you couldn’t really tell what might happen, which can be nice for a change. The characters are written so well and the story line has curves that really likes it real life. This is a wonderful book with a firefighting badass women- couldn’t ask for more!

Cute and easy read :)
Liked the golden retriever love interest a lot but the FMC was a bit annoying at times. Still, not a bad book and I enjoyed reading it. (Would've loved it to have some open door scenes tho.)

This is definitely the cheesiest Katherine Center book I've read so far. Although this wasn't my favorite of hers, she remains one of my favorite authors. You can just always count on her books being fairly clean and wholesome, cute and funny, and tiny bit emotional but nothing too sad, always ending hopeful. And sometimes that's exactly what I need in a reading experience.

I totally got hooked and devoured it (sorry kiddos waiting for grades!) But the ending felt a little too wrapped up. I felt like Center was afraid of leaving any tiny loose end at all, even bringing back little details from the very first chapter, which some may like but I felt was trying too hard.
