Gorgeous. I loved getting backstories on some of the main Fables characters, even though so many of them are full of tragedy (Flycatcher! *sobbing forever*). I also really liked the short, lighthearted stories included. It's a great addition, and even though you don't *need* to have read this one to read the rest of Fables, I like that Willingham calls back to these stories in the main narrative.

after reading this i think it would have been better to read it when i was reading the actual series only because the stories are very important to the main continuity of fables in general.
we learn stories here for the first time ever about many heroes from fables.
i love the 1001 arabian nights style of story telling and yeah this can't hold a candle to the original work so read it and do yourself a favor.
i liked the first story where snowhite killed the seven dwarves and how it might be the reason for her husband eventually betraying her since he never trusted her again.
i also loved the asian beauty that was snow white in that story.
in the second story we see the deception of Reynard at work and how he saved his fellow fables.
third story is the frog king story which is simply heartbreaking to have seen his family killed and raped in front of his eyes that the memory been forcefully regressed.
4th story the runt about bigby and how he grow to be the immense legend that he is.
5th story about frautotenkinder if i remember her name right and its a great story, its the origin of frautotenkinder and sadly i finally learn about it now.
6th story about king cole and how he came to be the first mayor of fabletown and how he came to be hated when he had to make the law banishing the animal fables to the farm.
its just an amazing collection i loved it so much and i regret not reading it when i was reading fables but better late than never and thank god i still remember these characters.

I thought this was good, but a little too short and with no real answers to any questions you think of while reading it. I know it's part of a series, but I'd prefer it if this book was a little longer and more in-depth.

Awesome! Beautiful artwork, I had to scan the images often longer than it took to read the words, they just had so much detail. A great, sometimes dark, sometimes lighthearted, always entertaining anthology of stories.

Another amazing installment in the Fables series. This one is more of a standalone that shows some of the backstories of characters. This volume is good to read before, after, or during the middle of the series; it doesn't spoil any of the series and helps flesh out some of the characters darker, more heroic, more foolhardy pasts. Each tale is illustrated by a different illustrator which helps keeps this volume fun and exciting. I loved all the stories in this collection and this is a must own for any Fables fan.

LOVED this Fables one-off edition. Fantastic prequel (of sorts) to the main Fables series, framed as Snow White recounting tales of past Fables adventures. Through the various stories, we are treated to backstories for Snow herself, as well as King Cole, Ambrose, Bigby, and other beloved characters. A must-read (and re-read, and re-read...) for Fables fans.
