jane’s obsession with colin even when she suspects bad things is simply not relatable to me. you barely know him stand up!! i found myself rolling my eyes at her inner monologues a lot. despite this i had a lot of fun reading it and loved zoe and jane together. i’ve never read hamlet so maybe i also would’ve gotten more out of the book with that context?? idk. overall a decent thriller that i didn’t want to put down and surprised me a bit with the twist at the last moment.

The first quarter of the audiobook inspired me to continue watching You on Netflix, because the vibes are so similar. Worley wrote such an addictive thriller with relatable characters that I dreaded each time I had to pause it. Jane, Zoe, and Colin are all so convincing that by 75% into the story, I began questioning everything I thought I knew. I love the girl bond relationship that develops over the course of the novel. Do NOT skip the epilogue. We always think we know people, as each of the three claim to know one another, but how intimately do we really know our friends and partners? Great narration, too, with real emotion pushing through.

Thanks to St Martins Press and NetGalley for an eARC to review!

This is a fun to read thriller. I was guessing the whole time and didn’t want to put this book down.

It’s written in first person following Jane, a young woman who is obsessed with her ex-boyfriend. She gets wrapped up in his life when his new girlfriend wants to be her friend. And shocking- things get chaotic.

I’ve read a lot of first person POVs with young MCs and it’s hard not to make them seem so sophomoric or out of touch with reality. This is one of the better ones where there are moments of immaturity and cringey dialogue but it’s definitely better than a lot of the newer gen z MC thrillers.

It is tough not to get into what I liked and didn’t like without spoilers but high level it was a fast paced and quick read. It’s twisty and interesting how things unfold. The one thing I didn’t care for was Jane’s backstory.

The psychological aspects are not done well (trauma. Abuse, addiction, even pts) from an accuracy standpoint but it doesn’t feel too exploitative of these things it’s just barely grazing the topics that could have been fleshed out to be authentic. But none of the story feels very realistic. Like the show You. We don’t enjoy it for the accuracy but for the unexpected plot and drama and what could happen next and this book delivers on those things.

So Happy Together is a fast paced messy chaotic twisty thriller about obsession.

The FMC is very unlikable. At least for most of the story she is. She is obsessed with someone she went on a handful of dates with before he broke it off with her. She is not quite in touch with reality when she makes plans to get him back. I’d say if you like Freida McFadden type books you would like this one.

4 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you NetGalley, Olivia Worley, and Minotaur Books for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you MacMillan and St Martin's Press for review copies.    See some topic notes/reader tips at the bottom.

Olivia Worley's So Happy Together is the perfect kind of summer suspense—ideal for poolside reading, airplane journeys, or road trip listening. I was immediately pulled into the story, despite usually steering clear of anything with a "stalker" vibe. This novel, though, is so much more. It’s twisty, it’s steeped in toxic relationships, and it reads like a dark little ode to women, revenge, and even Ophelia. At its core, it’s good old-fashioned “who’s lying?” storytelling.

At times, it felt like an oddly satisfying "FU" to the men who hurt women—carrying a definite he had it coming energy. The pacing is solid, with well-placed twists and reveals that keep the story moving while maintaining just enough uncertainty about what’s really happening—or what has already happened.

I was especially intrigued by how Jane and Zoe explore their connection through Colin, and how one seemingly small lie at the beginning spirals into a full-blown unraveling as their lives collide.

A note, this read does explore themes on toxic/manipulative relationships, it might not be for you if that's not a theme you want to read about.  At times, perhaps because of the main characters' age versus mine, this book also can read a little YA and didn't feel all that different from Worley's People To Follow (which I also enjoyed for a quick fun escape read) so I note that in case it impacts how you choose a book!
