Thank you to Minotaur Books for the e-arc of So Happy Together! This was not what I expected at all from the synopsis on the back. All the characters kept me guessing with their morals and what was going on. In the novel, Jane becomes a little obsessed with her ex and finds something one night that could change everything she thought of him. The story goes on from there. I liked the female friendship involved in the novel (which felt unlikely). However, it kinda felt like main character didn’t have much of a backbone. She rationalized a lot of what this guy did and gave him a lot of power over her. There were several times where I wanted to say, “Girl, stand UP!” There was also a lot of manipulation and discussion of past trauma in this book, so please check any trigger warnings. I would maybe recommend this book — it didn’t hit like I wanted it to.

Thanks to St Martins Press and NetGalley for an eARC to review!

This is a fun to read thriller. I was guessing the whole time and didn’t want to put this book down.

It’s written in first person following Jane, a young woman who is obsessed with her ex-boyfriend. She gets wrapped up in his life when his new girlfriend wants to be her friend. And shocking- things get chaotic.

I’ve read a lot of first person POVs with young MCs and it’s hard not to make them seem so sophomoric or out of touch with reality. This is one of the better ones where there are moments of immaturity and cringey dialogue but it’s definitely better than a lot of the newer gen z MC thrillers.

It is tough not to get into what I liked and didn’t like without spoilers but high level it was a fast paced and quick read. It’s twisty and interesting how things unfold. The one thing I didn’t care for was Jane’s backstory.

The psychological aspects are not done well (trauma. Abuse, addiction, even pts) from an accuracy standpoint but it doesn’t feel too exploitative of these things it’s just barely grazing the topics that could have been fleshed out to be authentic. But none of the story feels very realistic. Like the show You. We don’t enjoy it for the accuracy but for the unexpected plot and drama and what could happen next and this book delivers on those things.

So Happy Together is a fast paced messy chaotic twisty thriller about obsession.

The FMC is very unlikable. At least for most of the story she is. She is obsessed with someone she went on a handful of dates with before he broke it off with her. She is not quite in touch with reality when she makes plans to get him back. I’d say if you like Freida McFadden type books you would like this one.

4 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you NetGalley, Olivia Worley, and Minotaur Books for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Just Wow! I got to the last chapter of this book and still trusted nobody. Everybody was manipulative and separating their reality from their lies was nearly impossible. The ending was so perfect though.
The way the women came together on a theatrical piece fit the narrative so well!
I am so glad to have picked this one up. I received my ARC from NetGalley and all opinions are my own.
