I love listening to the audiobooks of comics' memoirs because 1) they're usually easy listening while I'm driving long distances, 2) they're easy to start and stop without getting too lost and 3) the author almost always does the reading.

For anyone who knows about Tig Notaro or her life, it shouldn't be a surprise that her book doesn't exactly qualify as "easy listening" — the book primarily talks about her own near-death experiences and processing the death of her mother, which all occurred within the span of a year. While that may sound like a book of pure doom-and-gloom, it also has plenty of dry humor and weaves in so many fascinating life stories, particularly about her mother. I'd seen her on "Transparent" and in guest appearances on other shows, but really took an interest in her after seeing the Netflix special "Tig." If you loved that, this book makes a great companion/expansion on the special.

A very well-written memoir about a period of difficult trial. I've been a casual fan of tig's for years. I saw her live probably a year before all this happened and was somewhat aware of what was going on throughout. I very much appreciate her candor and openness about sharing her story.

Notaro's story is quite dark! A fairly easy read in terms of difficulty, with some good messages along the way. However, I never felt any profound messages came forth -- so, read it if you're interested in why Notaro is who she is! But I wouldn't jump at it for any other reason.
