I just finished reading Saving Rain a couple of days ago it took me that long to decide how to do this review. But, I do know that I love Soldier Mason!!
This book made me smile, made me cry, made root for the underdog.
Soldier, carried the world on his shoulders. His mother named him Soldier so he could save her. What a burden to carry.
Kelsey tells Soldier’s story in such a way you are there with him. You feel everything he goes thru, and it’s a lot. I couldn’t wait to see how his story ended and at the same time I didn’t want it to end. Then my time with Soldier would be over. Although, I haven’t quit thinking about the book since I finished.

this story is so cute. maybe i was just beginning a reading slump but i kinda got bored with this story and could see where it was headed the whole time. i enjoyed the ending. it took me so long to finish because i started back to school so i didn’t have a good routine yet. it was kind of boring the further i read, but i enjoyed the turnout. good details. even if it feels like they could’ve been left out, you know they were necessary. i’d give this book 3 stars. 7/10.

This was my pick for my book club so I think that made me automatically a little more critical because I wanted it to be good. And I was unsure when I started reading 5-year-old Soldier's POV, but I was quickly won round. It was such a clever, unique way to share his back story and it quickly got me emotionally invested in him and his story. Heart strings thoroughly pulled. I dont think I've ever nearly cried at the very first chapter of a book. However, there were a few negatives for me as it went on. I did find some of it a bit predictable, to the point that it genuinely annoyed me that he didn't realise who Ray was when it was perhaps a bit too obvious as the reader. There were a few coincidences as well, so some things just felt bit too convenient. And there was Harry's blatant and unethical lack of professional boundaries, although he's a sweetheart so we'll let him off. But I enjoyed reading such a refreshingly empathetic perspective on people who've been convicted of crime, I've never read a redemption story before and I liked how character driven it was.

This was a beautiful, beautiful story, the likes of which I don't think I've ever read before. There is nothing left of my heart after that.
The beginning has my heart hurting soo bad, because Soldier. Soldier, Soldier, Soldier. This man has been through so much in his life. A person who thinks they are terrible are not truly terrible. They are just victim of terrible circumstances. And that was entirely Soldier's life. Time and again, he fell victim to it all. At the end, I kid you not, I was literally sobbing.
It was a beautiful tragic story and I loved every single bit of it. Although this was my first book by the author, it definitely will not be the last.

My heart is tattered & put back together. My emotions are all over the place and I’m crying as I write this review. The gut wrenching, the heartbreak, this book was a beautiful, emotional masterpiece. I could go on about the characters, but this is a book I truly feel you need to just read for yourself.
