At the surface, this isn't a phenomenal book that I feel I must tell everyone about. That said, it was thoroughly enjoyable. It is definitely YA, but it didn't fall into melodrama like so many, and it was a fresh take on vampires. It was a fun listen and I'd be happy to read more books set in this alternative reality.

Una buena y original historia de academia de vampiros, pero que va un poco mas alla, y toca temas delicados, como la homosexualidad, la division de clases y las presiones sociales. Me gustó mucho!

Only minor spoilers
It's interesting, and I'd love to see this expanded on as a concept with more worldbuilding, but it was kinda lame.
I also think Kat should've had more accountability for how she treated Galen, because it seemed like really liked her and was just lost. I feel bad for him, even if he's a bit one dimensional. I love Ms Radtke or whatever her name is (how the heck do you pronounce that).

Ehhh.
EDIT:
ALSO!! The thing in the blurb doesn't happen until well into the second half of the book, which always annoys me, because at that point, the blurb is a spoiler.

I’m so glad vampires are low-key back, and even more pleased to have this LGBT title amongst the genre.

Set at an elite boarding school for vampires, an estranged friends-to-roommates-to-lovers wlw romance blooms as dark forces are at play in this standalone, dual perspective YA novel. Ideal for readers who want something that feels fresh, addresses contemporary problems, and still manages to make you smile through it all as it plays into tropes in heartwarming ways. Not to mention gay awakenings, particularly juxtaposed with the notion of the sometimes hardened, but no less welcoming, “born this way” mentality.

Despite the monstrous nature of the characters, and a few scenes with a good amount of blood, this book steers clear of true horror and settles comfortably between balancing activism, subterfuge, and romance.

I didn't realize this book was so controversial, especially after reading it and feeling as if there really isn't anything wrong with it...

Maybe 3.5. I liked this story, it was a huge teen drama that was a lot of silliness but still fun. The premise was so interesting and the characters very pretty interesting at times. I liked how the general storyline went and the ending felt right. My only complaints are that they're were like 30-50 pages that weren't really that needed where the two mains kept fighting and becoming friends again but no development was actually happening for them. They just kept finding reasons to be upset and then forgive each other but it was a lot of telling not showing for those pages so it made their final reunion feel a little flat cause it wasn't all that different. Second complaint is that I really liked the premise but it got to the point that they were talking about all this cool stuff and doing nothing to discuss it. It's fine I mean it wasn't directly about the mains I get it and when one of the interesting things is about a man when this is a lesbian romance I understand not wanting to focus on it. But when you kept bringing up how important racial diversity is and you bring up this really interesting point about how one guy in the story is a half white half Indian vampire legacy whose made to have his identity brushed aside inside this oppressive school and then do nothing with that again I get a little peeved. Especially when you bring up how his mother was turned by a British colonizer and then had to stick by him as he continued supporting Britain controlling India?? And show how obviously uncomfortable and bothersome this is to the character. Like that's interesting to me! Idk it's probably because the writers white and didn't feel comfortable discussing that aspect but for a story that's talking about inequality and lack of diversity in a prestigious school I just wish it wasn't all white people telling it. Anyway not bad still. Def comfy with a 3 stars
