during my first read, i somehow skipped over all the overbearing queerphobic and racist comments in this book, but during a reread, it all slapped me in the face. wow. what is this.

im terribly sorry to anyone i may have criticized prior to my realization.

probably the technically worst vampire book i've read, but it didn't flat-out irritate me as much as woman, eating did. this story was a lot heavier on plot than i expected coming into this. the prose was pretty juvenile, and it felt pretty unedited in a lot of spots with sentences that just didn't flow. the third act conflict felt a little nonsensical. i liked the characters individually, but i felt that they didn't get enough development as a duo for me to really root for them. the resolution didn't really resolution, like galen is just kind of orphaned, and kat is like "well... wish i was gonna help him, but i'm not. really sad :("i this isn't rated any lower, because i at least was having fun for most of the time. i just can't rate it any higher because it just wasn't that well-written.

acc, coming back about a mont later to move it up .25 ⭐️ because the mc's internal discussion about how her relationship attempt with that guy didn't work out because she knew she would help him become a better person, but there was no universe in which he could do the same for her keeps sticking in my head

these are my tropes ok, lesbian vamps in a boarding school, what more could i ask for?! well…. apparently a lot. the pacing was excruciating to be honest. the mystery bit of the plot was left entirely behind for the middle third or more of the book. the girls don’t properly confess their feelings until somewhere around pg 360…. the internalized homophobia was unnecessary and excessive. and i’ve read some other reviews speaking to anti Semitic tropes so there’s that.

extremely mid. i liked kat's comphet journey but apart from that i don't think any of it was remarkable.

Thanks PRHInternational for the e-ARC!

1. I got bored.
2. It took me ages to continue, and by the time I did I forgot everything.
3. I’ve seen reviews from other readers and DAMN is this problematic
