I didn't like this one as much as I thought I would. It was TRAGIC for the first 200 pages, tragedy after horrible thing one right after the other. I've heard some people refer to this book as "tragedy porn" and I don't disagree.
That being said, the last 166 pages were light and full of hope. Adunni is an excellent character, and I think that's why it was so damn hard to watch her experience the hells she was put into. She was funny, and smart, and feisty. I really loved her, and I think she'll stick with me for a long time.
There were parts that were so disgusting or violent, I felt it took me out of the book. I honestly felt it was added for shock value, to really the nail the sadness of Adunni's life home, but I found it unnecessary. I have a high tolerance for gore and violence, but some parts were too much for me.
This isn't a book I feel I can recommend to anyone because of it's many content warnings. But if this sounds interesting to you, it's a beautifully written story.
