What a great book to start the year with. An incredibly authentic narrator, Adunni's character is brought to life on the page within the first chapter. The book is written in dialect but it wasn't difficult to follow. A fantastic look at the difficulties that young women/girls face in Nigeria. I was particularly impressed with her characterisation of Big Mamma, a wealthy lady Adunni goes to work for as a maid. She is vile and hateful, yet the author manages to make you feel incredible sympathy for her at times, with her flashes of humanity. My only criticism was that the plot was a little... easy. Chance meetings and unlikely circumstances moving it along to its satisfactory conclusion.
