This is exactly what I’m looking for when I want a historical category romance. It dives right into the action, is all plot and no vibes and moves along at a fast pace.

I love a second chance romance, especially a second chance where both MCs have found love in the interim and are very different people than when they first met. Add in a Scottish setting and clan dynamics and I’m sold.

This is the second book in a series is woven into Jeanine’s other books but you don’t need to have read any of them to enjoy this one.

I can't resist a good Scottish Highlander romance novel. And when you add in some chemistry, family loyalty, and second chances, you've got a winning formula. In addition to my surprise, I realized I had read about Rowan and his brother, Brandon, in The Highlander's Secret Son

Susanna Cameron and Laird Rowan Campbell have a complicated history. They were once in love, but their relationship ended when Susanna rejected his proposal years ago. Now, they are like oil and water, unable to stand each other's company. However, fate has a way of bringing people together, even those who have a volatile past.

Susanna comes across as abrasive and demanding. She's used to getting her way, and she doesn't hesitate to bait Rowan into going along with her plans. But despite her tough exterior, Susanna's compassion for Rowan's loss is genuine. She knows firsthand what it's like to lose the love of your life.

Rowan is a dependable and honorable man who is struggling to cope with the loss of his wife and son. He blames himself for not being able to protect them, and it's that grief and need for vengeance that causes him to neglect his daughter Rosa. But when Susanna enters his life, she awakens him both emotionally and physically. She gives him hope for the future and helps him see that there's still beauty to be found in life.

One of the things that I enjoyed about this book was seeing how Rowan refused to be Susanna's fool. He didn't give in to all of her orders and demands, even though she was used to getting her way. It's satisfying to watch Susanna and Rowan soon discover that they have a deep connection that goes beyond their differences.

If you love fast-paced historical romances with passionate, compelling characters, give this book a try.

Thank you to Ms. Englert for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
