It's no secret that I've loved this book since I first read it my freshman year of high school. Margaret George is an amazing author who really injects life and personality (not that there needs to be much injection here) into her characters. The narratives and dialogues never disappoint in one of her novels, and "Memoirs" is no exception.

A historical fiction gem, this book made a deep impression on me for its beautiful writing and how well researched it is. Margaret George brought every detail to life, especially the characters and the way she revealed the ancient world to the reader. I highly recommend to those who are interested in the subject or era, are interested in mythology, those who love historical fiction, women, and serious readers. Yes, the book is long, but it is a full account and is well worth it in my experience (I don't have problems reading long books as a general rule, though).

This was a very interesting book. I didn't know anything about Cleopatra but in her way, Margaret George was able to bring her to life and make her fascinating. It is a long book. I had brought a stack on vacation and it took me nearly a week to finish while the other books sat waiting. Guess I will renew the lot and read a bunch when I get home. Loved the after notes about what bits were real from history.

Margaret George breathes life into the character through an interesting style and plot. The reader gets to know Cleopatra quite well as George takes her through the workings of her mind and the reason for her decisions.

This must be the second or third time I read this chonker, and once again it goes back into the stash for yet another time. My edition is Dutch, and at times I regret that. If this translation is any indication, the original English must be amazing.
A lovely, well written book, that leaves you with the feeling you really knew Cleopatra. Would recommend, would read again.
