This was so thorough and masterful! Though it's long, I think ultimately it's such an awe-inspiring feat that she was able to document Cleopatra's life so fully and colorfully.
An interesting and involved story of Cleopatra and her life and loves. Sometimes too much detail and the book is weighty. You can see how Margaret George got herself very involved in the character and the situation in the world. I did enjoy it but felt it was a bit long and occasionally could be a bit shorter as things did lag. However it was very interesting and did get you into the mind of the characters.
Margaret George is a fantastically detailed storyteller, but man, that sure makes for a looooong book. there are points where I almost gave up, especially during the battle scenes. but I loved Cleopatra's voice.
The only book I have that has to do with the Roman Empire, watching HBO'S Rome made me pick this up again.
This book is epic. But so fascinating. George did a lot of research for this novel, and it pays off because everything about it is absolutely believable. There are some artistic liberties, of course, but all in all the book is an amazing read.
