Un beau cadeau même si je ne me serais pas aventurée à l'acheter de mon plein gré.
Pour les fans de Tolkien, qui comme moi aimeraient relire TOUS les livres chaque année, c'est une bonne alternative parce que, par manque de temps, on ne peut pas tout relire donc c'est une façon de se replonger en résumé dans l'histoire des Contes perdus, du Silmarillion, du Hobbit et du Seigneur des Anneaux. Mais je précise qu'il faut avoir lu ces livres pour que l'Atlas soit une lecture agréable sinon vous serez perdus, les notions évoquées étant très évasives.
Les pages de converture sont magnifiques, ainsi que certaines illustrations qui sont des chef d'œuvre, mais certains dessins sont décevants parce qu'ils pourraient montrer beaucoup plus de potentiel et être plus détaillés, c'est en tout cas ce à quoi je m'attendais pour certaines illustrations et je suis restée sur ma faim.
La version française du moins contient quelques petites fautes.

Podle názvu této knihy s překrásnou polorvrdou zelenou obálkou byste si mohli myslet, že se jedná o soubor map. To ale není tak docela pravda, i když mapy tvoří podstatnou část jejího obsahu. Již v úvodu knihy se dozvídáme, že není nutné být znalcem Tolkienova světa, abyste si tuto knihu mohli užít. Je napsána tak, že se v ní dobře zorientuje i člověk, který viděl pouze filmy a žádné bližší informace nezná.
Jednou z prvních součástí knihy, se kterou se setkáváme, je propracovaná časová osa Středozemě a Zemí neumírajících. Zde se dozvídáme, že to, co se odehrává ve všemi tolik milovaných knihách je vlastně jen špičkou ledovce propracovaných dějin světa. Další strany a kapitoly nás pak provedou jednotlivými částmi této časové osy.
To a mnohem, mnohem víc se dozvíte, pokud se nenecháte odradit zdánlivou náročností orientace v dějinách. Na první pohled se může zdát, že není možné si zapamatovat všechny názvy a jména, která se v knize objevují, a občas se mi skutečně stalo, že jsem se do nich trochu zamotala, nicméně vždy se mi podařilo pohodlně zpětně nalistovat příslušné stránky a chybějící informace si doplnit.
Kniha je členěna do kapitol a podkapitol. Autor nám vždy načrtne, co nás na následujících stránkách čeká, a následně nám do podrobna přednese detaily.
Takřka na každé dvoustraně na nás čekají překrásné ilustrace, mapy, časové osy a doplňující materiály, které jen umocní dojem ze čtení a potěší čtenářovo oko.
Nicméně pokud jste milovníky knih plných akce a napětí, pak tato publikace zřejmě není pro vás. Čtenář k ní musí přistupovat skutečně jako k atlasu, který mu má pomoci se zorientovat, a který je nabitý především fakty. Není to oddechové čtení a skutečně vyžaduje, abyste se na všechna fakta plně soustředili, jinak vám nebudou dávat smysl a to bude mít za následek pokažený čtenářský zážitek.

The only thing that annoyed me about this book was the fact that the author kept repeating the story over and over. Each chapter had at least half of it in the form of a summary of the exact same thing he said the previous page.

This little book packs quite a lot of brilliant information! This book delivers fantasy and brilliant accounts of events throughout the history of Arda, not only of the physical history but its relation to the history of its peoples through the ages. However, the title may be a touch misleading as this book is not quite an atlas, it is rather an account of the characters and lands of Arda and how they shape one another through Tolkien's stories. In any case, I've forgiven the title of this book as it does deliver on brilliant illustrations regardless of their subject matter. Not only could I not put it down, but it also gave further insight into Tolkien's legendarium while not revealing too much information as to entice readers to find out the full story for themselves by reading the original work.
I will definitely indulge myself in Day's other works in this 'series'.

Estéticamente hablando es un libro precioso. La edición, toda ilustrada, es una delicia. Sin embargo, el texto me ha fallado un poco más. Son unos pocos apuntes que nos recuerdan de manera muy superficial algunos de los hechos más relevantes del Silmarillion, El Hobbit y El Señor de los Anillos (de estos dos últimos apenas se aporta nada realmente), en un orden propio de modo que hay hechos que se repiten en distintas categorías.
Aún así, creo que puede venir muy bien para recordar rápidamente hechos del Silmarillion, sobre todo. Batallas, sucesión de acontecimientos, edades, fechas, y cosas por el estilo. Como guía rápida creo que está bastante bien.
