I think I should've read this back in the day, when I myself was a bratty 16-year old. As a bratty 26-year old, this book is just IRRITATING.
I didn't like any of the characters. Except maybe the pimp. I did like the pimp.

I think the problem was that I had so many high expectations for this novel, I'd always heard how amazing it was and what a classic, I was only disappointed.
Did anyone else feel like they were waiting for something big to happen? I kept reading because surely something exciting and unexpected was about to happen, but nothing. Just a whole book of nothing much!
Although I am very glad that I read it because I can mark it off my list :) but definitely not a favourite sadly.

Wow. Brilliant. Someone wrote a book from the perspective of the most horrible, annoying teenage boy ever born. Let's force a whole bunch of high school students to read this now, so that they can blame all their annoying tendencies on Holden. Sounds like a great idea. Way, way overrated.

My one word review: meh.
It's on all the lists. It's the book everyone says you should read. Maybe I expected to much. Maybe I'm too old to appreciate it. Maybe it's time has come and gone.
Much has been discussed about this one already. Let's just say I found it rambling, somewhat repetitive in style, and I found Holden Caulfield to be a whiny jerk.
If you like it, please accept my apologies. I know that must be the case for it to have the legendary status that it does. I'd just prefer to read more Jane Austen or Henry James or Ray Bradbury.
Next book, please.
