I read and loved The Hunger Games trilogy over a decade ago, and I cannot believe it took me this long to read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This is an excellent villain origin story that can inspire many thought-provoking conversations. That being said, I question whether I would have the same takes as a 12-year old, or even if I read this a decade ago along with the other books. I felt that the plot was less action-focused than the other books, so it could read slower if that's what you're reading for. However, if you're a dystopia lover who actively makes connections to what's going on today, there is much material here to devour. It has also made me want to reread the trilogy to see the connections and character motivations after having an in-depth look at the backstory.

Collins has done it again. This novel is a masterpiece in not only dystopian literature, but literature as a whole. The way that Collins can hold up a mirror to her audience and make them aware of themselves and the world they live in should be applauded. I just finished this novel, so I don’t have anything more profound to say, other than I would do anything to be able to talk to Collins about this world that she has created, and the world that she is mirroring.

Was similar to the movie, and was still engrossed in the book despite knowing what will happen. Explains a lot about the character for the other books - Suzanne Collins is so smart

Kinda disappointing. I haven’t seen the film yet but I suspect this works better as a movie than as a book. There was a lot of visual aspects that were boring to read but would be fun to watch.
