Eden Winters

I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed by an Eden Winters book, and this one didn’t break the chain either.

A wonderful light hearted whimsical tale of Opossum shifters. Funny and sweet with plenty to keep the reader interested.

As cute as the possum’s are, Seth as a man had my heart aching. Thanks to an overbearing Grandmother, Seth is raised without the love and affection he would of received if he had been left with his Great Aunt. In turn Seth has little self worth and allows himself to settle for any scraps of affection he can find.

Dustin is his childhood friend, and the one guy Seth never forgot. Likewise Dustin never forgot his best friend from childhood. Watching the two of them reunite and grow together was wonderful.

Monica was a bitch, an opinionated, loud, crude nasty bitch. At least for the first half. She did somewhat make up for things by the end, but I still dislike her. Others will see another side to her, but for me I’m still fixated on her behaviour at the beginning.

The Johnson triplets are a riot. Loved them to pieces.

Overall another great read by Eden Winters. This one full of Fun, Romance, a tiny spot of angst (probably not enough to register with most people) and entertainment.

I have to mention how much I loved the scene near the end when Seth lets the Johnson boys come forward as they had earned their place, such a simple small thing but had me choking up like the wuss I am lol.

Such a joy to read.

A cute, loveable story about possum shifters. The cast of characters are engaging and the story gives me lots of warm fuzzies.

This was a fun, goofy read that was way better than I expected it to be! Offbeat shifter books don't usually do it for me, but this looked interesting, plus it takes place not too far from where I grew up so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Eden Winters does a nice job evoking the area and the people of North Georgia where "Possum Kingdom" (not too far from the real town of Clayton) exists. Seth has been away in the city environment of Chicago for so long he's forgotten his country roots (the fact that I live near Chicago now is pure coincidence but probably added to my affinity for the book!). Going back to the red clay of his youth leaves him absolutely out of his element, but he learns to adapt. I liked Seth and really sympathized with his confusion and reluctance to stay in Possum Kingdom. Dustin was a little more difficult to read and I would have liked to see more of him in the story, but it makes sense why he was not. Monica, Dustin's second in command, was a hoot! I've met Southern women like her and I can definitely say there are plenty of grounds in reality for her character.

The plot to the book isn't anything particularly special. Stranger comes in and must assume command, learn about his heritage and the local society, and train to fight like a possum (as one does). The latter part of the story seemed a bit rushed after the relaxed, enjoyable setup, and that's the main reason I rate this a 4 out of 5. I would have liked to see things drawn out a bit more and have more time to explore Seth and Dustin's time together, reconnecting from their youth.

I quite enjoyed Naked Tails, and look forward to exploring more of Winters' back catalog!

Thank you to Kaje for this wonderful recommendation. I adored this story and all of its characters, although Monica might have almost been my fave. A sweet, super fun story about a type of shifter I haven’t gotten to read too much of. I love when authors take a chance and write something unique.

I've had some time to think this over and I have to leave it at 3. There were just too many things I didn't like. Monica was one of them. I did not like her at all and nobody can make me like her. Like Seth leaving was HIS fault? He was 8.

I liked Dusty. But, I thought he should have told Seth sooner let him make up his own mind about what he wants.

The romance between them was kind of on the backburner which was fine, but I didn't really FEEL the love between them. Did Seth NEED Dusty? YES! But, only for the passel stuff.
SpoilerWhy did Dusty have to leave for so long if he was talking to Seth after he got hurt? THAT I don't understand. If he was already healing why ship him off? Wasn't the fox a vet? Couldn't he fix him in the office?

I do love how the possum tendencies cross over into the human form though. Seth was cute :)

But seriously
SpoilerMichael and Junior?! Did Junior tell Michael he's a shifter? How did Michael take it? How is Junior going to handle being on his own up there with no passel?

Mmmm....crickets ;)

I honestly don’t know what I was expecting. It was shared in my postpartum depression group because we love possums, and curiosity got the best of me. I will say, interesting premise!

"We embark!" I said grandly to my husband, as I opened this book.
"Hmm?"
"Possum shifters!" (waving the e-reader triumphantly)
::snickering::
"No, seriously."

Seriously: it was good. To be sure, a waddling possum doesn't have the same je ne sais quois as an alpha wolf, but this was not that story. This was a sweet, well-developed tale (sorry) of a community of possum shifters in the rural South.

The story was sweet with a bit of angst, humour and sexy times. Loved it!I liked that Seth and Dustin's reconnection wasn't insta-love - Dustin's loyalty was to his town first and foremost. I liked seeing Seth adjust to his new reality and find his self esteem.
