The setting of the story was very vivid. Okorafor expertly describes each scene with concrete details that bring this town to light in my mind's eye. Nnamdi was also a great portrayal of a 12-year-old boy trying to figure out who he is and who he wants to be. I especially love that Nnamdi's best friend, Chioma, is a girl because it took away the romanctic obligation between boys and girls! Chioma is very strong and sure of who she is and what she deserves.

The progression of the story was odd for me--the pacing was not consistent and changes in pace were randomly inserted throughout. I know that pacing could also read as a metaphor for grief and healing. Overall, the messaging and morals about power and justice were laid out plainly; therefore, the dialogue sometimes felt stilted and disconnected from the narrative. This was a great story by a great write, but it just missed that 5-star factor for me.
