This was a bit of a chaotic read, but I am devoted to this man.

Okay, hear me out. I don't know why I decided to read this book. I'm definitely not the target audience for it. The fact that I've been listening to the same five bands since I was 14 is quite literally a joke amongst my close friends.

... but I'm so glad I did. The stories about featured musicians and their albums combined with James' personal anecdotes have made this a beautiful read that despite some very dark themes carried an overwhelming feeling of hope. I've never listened to any of the albums discussed in the book but I found myself really invested in all of them, why they have been made and by whom.

Reading a summary of so many different lives has truly given me the sense of togetherness I so desperately needed in those unprecedented times.

Well, now I'm off to put 'We Begged 2 Explode' on repeat for the rest of the evening. Cheers, James.

Half memoir, half music recommendation. The audiobook is read by the author.

James Acaster. Enough said.
